FM放送でアル・ディ・メオラを聴いて気になり私にとって初めて買った彼のCDです。
ラジオから流れていたのがどの曲だったのかもう思い出せませんが、
おそらくはSplendid Hotelの中の一曲だったでしょうか。
とにかく名前だけを頼りに探して、たまたま置いてあったのがこのCDでした。
さて聴いてみるとラジオから流れていたのとは全く違います。
アコースティックですし、何というか耽美的です。音色の響きの美しさのみを
ひたすら追求しているようで、最初は面食らってしまいました。
でもその後このCDに精神的にヘビーなとき何度も助けられることとなりました。
立ち上がる気力もないとき、不安に打ちのめされそうなとき、
悲しみに沈み込んでゆくとき、このCDに手を伸ばし、目をつむって、
ただただ美しいヴァイブレーションに浸ります。そうすると何者も
犯すことのできない世界に導いてくれます。
しばらく聴いていませんがまた聴いてみようかな。
しばらく入手困難でしたがこちらに収録されています。

ディメオラのアルバムで1番好きなひとつである。超絶技巧のテクニックを披露する
リズミックな曲もよいのだが、ひたすら静謐なトーンに叙情的なメロディや
深く思いに耽るような音を奏でる曲が多いこのアルバムは、ひとり内省的に
なりたい時などに最高のBGMになってくれる。彼のあまたあるアルバムの中では
最も異質な特徴を示しているが、この深く暗く、内向する音楽傾向は、案外、
ディメオラの資質の底にある、醒めたロマンティシズムと孤独感の発露のように
思えてならない。音楽としての完成度と、演奏の集中度がきわめて高い秀作である。

アコーステックアプローチに移行した彼なのだが。まだまだふっきれていなかったようでして。中途半端なアルバムになった。
シンクラビアに接続したオーケストレーションなど新たなテクノロジーを導入。しかし完璧に使いこなすにはいたっておらず。残念。
メモラブルな曲がない。アトモスフェリックな一枚。アコギ中心
