ジミヘンの最初のアルバム「Are you experienced?」は1967年に発売された時、アメリカとイギリスで内容とジャケットが異なっていました。このCDはご覧の通りお馴染みの日本盤や英国盤、そしてアメリカ以外の国のもの（以下「インターナショナル版」）とは違うジャケットとなっています。裏ジャケットはこのCDとインターナショナル版のジャケット兼ブックレットの1-2ページの写真です。インターナショナル版の裏ジャケットの写真はUS盤のCDを留める部分の内側にあります。CDの表のアルバムタイトルの書体も異なります。ブックレットの内容は共に共通です。そのためインターナショナル版のブックレットでは歌詞の掲載の順序がUS盤と同じになってます（とはいっても16と17の順序が間違ってます）。収録曲はどちらのヴァージョンも同じです。違うのは曲順と「Red house」のヴァージョンです（本作でのテイクは彼の生前に唯一出たベスト盤「Smash hits」や編集版に収録。ファンの人は要チェック）。本作とインターナショナル版のどちらの曲順がよいかは聴き手の価値観に委ねられますが、私は後者を支持したいです。ジミヘンがアメリカ人である事が理由なのか、現在彼の家族が管理するレーベルのカタログではこのUS盤が「オリジナル」として扱われているようです。インターナショナル版を既にお持ちの方で、本作の曲順が織り成す印象を味わいたい方はカセットやMD,MP3等で本作の曲順をプログラムして見て下さい。本作はアメリカ国外のジミヘンファンでコレクターでもある人にお勧めです。

言わずと知れたJIMI大先生のファーストアルバム。

世紀の名盤といっても過言ではないアルバムの一つでござんす。

上記のレビューでも書いてある通り、いろんなバージョンがあるのですが、これ見てびっくりしたのは曲数が増えてる（悔）

多分私みたいな横着な人は気づかないかと（笑）

イギリス版、アメリカ版で昔は収録曲の違いがあったような気がします。

これはどちらも入っていると思うので、まだ買っていない人はこれを買いましょう。
そんなに珍しい曲が追加なわけではないので私は買おうか迷っていますが、初心者には是非お勧め。

特に個人的お勧め曲はLOVE AND CONFUSION。フィードバックをここまで歌わせて演奏できるのはJIMIだけだと思う。THIRD STONE FROM THE SUNも超お勧め。オクターブ奏法でのジャズに影響を受けた楽曲で、最高にクール。もちろんヒット曲も満載。それ以外もOKと文句なしです。

1967年発表。ジミ・ヘンドリックスが世に降臨した作品である。
ロック・オンリーのフリーク達の知らないところで1967年7月17日、コレクティブ・インプロビゼーションというベクトルを指し示していたジャズの重鎮ジョン・コルトレーンが死んだ。多くのジャズ・ミュージシャンの精神的支柱であった彼の死後、もう一人の精神的支柱であるマイルスがどう動くか、ジャズ全体が彼の動向に注目していた。それが60年代の終わりのジャズの渾沌とした状況だった。そしてマイルスはジャズ・ファンクに突っ走る。
なぜ、ジャズ・ファンクか?その答えは同じ1967年にデビュー作『アー・ユー・エクスペリエンスト?』(つまり本作)を発表したジミ・ヘンドリックスの音楽である。彼の音楽がいかにマイルスのジャズ・ファンク傾倒に火をつけたかをロックを聴き続けてこの時期のマイルスの音を聴いたものは誰しも感じずにはいられないだろう。一言で言ってマイルスはジミ・ヘンドリックスの音を自分のものにしたかったのだ。
マイルスはジミ・ヘンとファンクしたくてたまらなかった。そして1969年8月の3日間CBSスタジオで録音された『ビッチズ・ブリュー』から、マイルスが一時沈黙するまでの間に演奏された作品群は、ジャズ・ファンクという強烈なベクトルに、才能あるミュージシャンを次々と放り込み、その渾沌から何が見えてくるかをマイルス自身も若手も同時体験した。
ロック・ファンクだけ追いかけている人には関係のない話である。実は本作はそういった側面すら持った作品だということだ。
デビュー作の本作は名曲ぞろい。特に『パープル・ヘイズ』はジミの化身として多くのロック・ファンの耳に住み着いていることだろう。僕もその一人である。そのギターもだが僕はジミのボーカルも素晴らしいと思う。
余談だが、荒木飛呂彦氏の傑作『JoJoストーン・オーシャン(つまりは第6部)』の主人公ジョリーンのスタンド、『ストーン・フリー』は本作の中にある。
