このアルバムの内容の素晴らしさについては多くを語るまでもないでしょう。
できれば星１０個付けたいくらいです。

さてそれはおいといて、ジミのベストアルバムというと3rdのElectric Ladylandを挙げる人が非常に多いです。
あちらはブルース色の濃い仕上がりになっていて、1曲が10分以上ある聞かせる曲も多いです。
それに対して2ndのAxis: bold as loveは多彩でメロディアスな名曲揃いで、1曲5分くらいで潔く終わるのが特徴です。
このアルバムからは世界中の多くのアーチストによって実にたくさんの曲がカバーされています。
もしかしたらあなたの聞いたことのある有名な曲が入っているかもしれません。
ですからブルースやファンク好きな人だけでなくロックやポップスから入って来た人、初めてジミを聞く人にも
Electric Ladylandよりきっと取り付きやすいでしょう。

というわけでジミのファーストチョイスにはこのアルバムを強くお勧めします。

個人的にはジミのアルバムの中でもフェイバリットです。
このアルバムはバラード調の曲が多く、voodoo childやfire等の
うるさめな音はやや控えめです。ソウル色が強いといえるでしょう。
内容はかなり濃厚ですが、それでいて聞きやすいです。

little wing、castle made of sand、axis bold as love始め
言葉で表現するのが馬鹿らしくなるほどエモーショナルな曲が目白押しです。

どの曲もライブで再現するのは不可能と思うほど繊細綿密な作りです。
いくつかライブでもやっている曲もありますが、本作でのバージョン以上のものにはまだ巡り合えていません。

　そのアグレッシヴかつ斬新な音楽スタイルにより数々の傑作を発表し、天才の名を欲しいままにしたジミヘンドリクス。ギタリストとして無類の評価を受けているが、彼はロック史上最もクリエイティヴな音楽家であり、偉大なヴォーカリストの１人である。

　「Hey Joe」,「Foxy Lady」のあの猥雑で危険な匂い、「If 6 Was 9」,「Little Miss Lover」（いずれも本盤収録）に感じる強靭なファンクネス、「Wind Cries Mary」,「Angel」の妖しいまでの美しさ等、数々の傑作は、いずれも彼のヴォーカルなくしては成立しえない。彼のヴォーカルはスモーキーではあるが、艶かしく、黒っぽい。その力強い歌声こそが、彼の音楽をこの上なく肉感的に、そして強靭かつ官能的なものにしている。ソウルという言葉の定義が聴き手の魂を揺さぶる歌声ということであるならば、彼は私にとって最高のソウルシンガーである。

　「ボールドアズラヴ」は、そうした彼のヴォーカリストとしての魅力と、類まれなるソングライティングの才能が光る名盤である。度重なるリマスタリングにより音質の改善も著しく、ジミを最も身近に、そしてリアルに聴けるアルバムとしても貴重。前述した２曲はジミの作品の中でも特筆すべき傑作。重心の低いグルーヴ感がたまらない。また、ため息がでる程美しい「Little Wing」や「Catsle Made Of Sand」、小粋なＪＡＺＺ風の「Up From The Skies」等、他のアルバムでは聴けない品位溢れる曲がとても印象的な作品である。

　時代の象徴でありながらも、時代に流されることのない不朽の名盤。お薦めである。
