　マサチューセッツ工科大学卒の秀才にして、完全主義者――トム・ショルツ(g)率いるBOSTONの4作目。1986年の「Third Stage」もそうだったが、またしても8年振りの新作だ。「ブラッド・デルプ」が歌っていない、というのが一番の違いだろうか。フラン・コスモ他、複数のvoで補っている。デルプの明るく美しい声に比べると、少々ハスキーなのが気になるが、キーは同じくらいで、それ程違和感はない。

　グランジ/オルタナなどラフなサウンドが主流になった1990年代の作品だが、見事なまでにBOSTON節。美しいハーモニーは不変だ。8年間、育ててきた7曲10トラックはどれも良く、「完全でない」フレーズは全部捨てたという感じのアルバム。今までの3作に比べると曲が良くない、という批評も多いが、自分はそうは思わない。スペイシーな効果音も健在で、1994年・宇宙の旅へ誘ってくれる。ちなみにジャケットの完成度は、全作品中No.1だと思う。

1stアルバムを聴いてその｢物凄さ｣に圧倒され、2nd｢Don't Look Back｣のイントロだけでノックアウトされた｢少年時代｣・・・。子供にはインパクト有り過ぎでしたが、｢いい音楽は、形態がどうあれ、いいのだ!｣と幼心に実感したものです。
そんな｢少年｣もこの4枚目｢Walk On｣を手にした頃には、もうすっかり成長しちゃってました(だってデビューから18年後ですよ)。
様々な音楽を聴いて年齢を重ねて、｢おぉ、BOSTONかぁ！｣っていう感じで手を伸ばし、1曲目から｢そうそう！これこれっ！！｣ってなってしまう・・・。

これが｢良い｣のだと、勝手に思っております。

何年経っても、何時聴いても、｢BOSTONはBOSTON以外の何者でもない｣のです。
｢Walk On｣を世界中のファンがどう評価したかは判りません。
ついにヴォーカルも交代してしまったし・・・。

でもあの｢分厚いアナログミックスのギターワーク｣｢大袈裟なのに透明感あるハーモニー｣｢手拍子はあくまで手拍子(シンセじゃないとクレジットしてあります、今回も)｣のサウンドは、まさに、永遠不滅！！！。

他に居ません、こんなバンドは・・・(居るとすればPink Floydくらいかな)。
出来る限り長く、このままのBOSTONで居て欲しいです。

｢Walk On｣は、勿論、いい曲揃いで５ッ星です。
100メートル先からでも｢BOSTON｣と判るアルバムです。
ただ聴くだけで｢嬉しくなる｣彼等の４枚目のオリジナル・アルバムです！。

すごい・・・
少なくともBostonの中では一番好きなアルバムかもしれない。
北海道の先っぽに立って、このアルバムを聴いたときの感動と衝撃は忘れられない。
まわりのものすべての感動を増幅するいわば感情の「ROCKMAN」では？
