大御所ソウルシンガーとして有名なChaka Khanですが、
昔はRufusというバンドのヴォーカルをやっていました。
その中でも人気が高いのがこのアルバムです。
どの曲も素晴らしいのですが、僕が個人的に好きなのは(1)、(6)、(8)、(9)です。
今聴くとちょっと録音が悪いので、リマスター盤の発売を希望します。

アリーサ･フランクリンがソウルの女王ならば、プリンセスはチャカ･カーン以外にあり得ない。音域、音程、リズム感、どれをとっても完璧で、しかも歌い回しが抜群にカッコいい！おまけに本作の、ノーマン・シーフの手によるジャケット写真でお判りの通り、キュートでセクシーなそのルックス。まったく後進に与えた影響力は絶大でありました（マライア･キャリーの歌唱スタイルがどれほどチャカに依拠しているか、機会があれば是非確認してみてください）。

さて本作ですが、1974年に発表されたルーファス＆チャカ屈指の人気作。30年後の今日でも古さを感じさせない理由は当時21歳のパワフルな天才歌姫の歌声あればこそですが、脇を固めるルーファスの堅実なファンキー・サウンドも充分魅力的。チャカ･カーンをどれか１枚、そんな方には自信を持って推奨できる名盤です。必聴！

5.0 out of 5 stars ルーファスとチャカカーンの中で１番好きなアルバム, 2009/2/7
個人的にはソウルの中でも、どちらかと言うとディープなサザンソウルより、シカゴやデトロイトなどのノーザンソウルが好みなんですが、ルーファスのこのアルバムはチャカの弾けるシャウトするボーカルと、それに負けないルーファスのメンバーの演奏のアンサンブルが何とも言えない高みに誘ってくれる。南部のアーシーな面と北部の洗練された部分の、いいとこ取りしたサウンドと言えばいいのだろうか？！やはりシカゴを拠点に活動していたシカゴソウルの雰囲気を持った良いバンドだと思う。

１曲目から一気にフルスロットルのファンキーな曲で幕開けしますが、それ一辺倒でない所はさすがだと思う。２曲目のギターのリフから始まる、変則的なリズムがとてもユニークで気に入っています。次のスローな曲もイイ！最後まで飽きる事無く、七色に変化するルーファスサウンドとチャカの歌声に魅了される事請け合いでしょう。

クインシープロデュースで後期の名盤”マスタージャム”も好きで捨て難いが、”マスタージャム”との一番の違いはドラマーがチェンジした事とプロデューサー＆時代が変わったのが最も大きいのではないかと思う。Rufusizedはファンキーで曲調も幅広いし、何とも言えない雰囲気のサウンドが好きなんですよね。きっとこの時代の音や、この時のルーファスのバンドサウンドが好きって事なんだろうと思う。私的にはチャカカーン関係で最も好きなアルバムです。
