ソロ・アルバムこそ、96年の6作目より御無沙汰だが，ＧＯ-ＧＯ‘ｓ再々結成アルバムを出したり未だ再機運を感じさせるベリンダ。あるラジオ番組で、ノーランズに次いでガールズ・グループの２位をＧＯ-ＧＯ‘ｓが獲得し、古今のリスナー層から支持を受けている。今注目を集める、80ｓ。そのほぼ最後期のサヨナラ本塁打級の名盤が、これ。内、１~６曲目迄が後のベスト盤に収まる。但し後の4曲も伍せずクオリティが高い。とても聴き易い(ベスト盤より遥かにイイ！)傑作アルバムです。買って無駄使いになるとはとても私には思えません。お値段もGOOD！

ブレイクした前作の「HEAVEN ON EARTH」に続いてリリースされた本作は、しっとりとした魅力が加わり、瑞々しく感じられます。また、豪華ゲスト陣とのコラボレートも実現、私も喜んだ一人です。(^^

ベリンダのアルバムのOPには元気な曲が似合う、今回も爽やかな1「Leave a light on」で幕を開け、タイトル通り馬の駆け抜ける足音がフィーチュアされたスケールの大きい2「Runaway horses」と続きます。異色なのは、スパニッシュな雰囲気を強く押し出した異国情緒溢れる美しいチューン5「La luna」。故ジョージ・ハリスンがギター参加した7「Deep deep ocean」、ハスキーなヴォーカルでベリンダと共通項を見出せそうなブライアン・アダムスがコーラス参加した9「Whatever it takes」は、話題性はもとより曲が素晴らしく、ファンには嬉しいプレゼントとなりました。

今作からカットされたシングルは、国内でも12インチ及びRemixが積極的にリリースされており、オリジナルの魅力を倍加させた、個人的に秀逸の出来と思える作品が多く、オススメです。

前作「Heaven on Earth」と並んで彼女の絶頂期を飾り、時代を越えてお薦めできる二大名アルバムだ。単純な表現がもどかしいが、彼女は歌がほんとうにうまくなった、と思う作品に仕上がっている。ベリンダのボーカルはソロ部ではその細やかな表現力と奥行きに、コーラス部では芯を失わない華やかさと絶妙の美しさとで聴く者を魅了する。ダイアモンド･ダストを見るかのごときキラキラした輝き、これこそ彼女の持ち味だろう。曲構成にも隙がなく、下手なベストアルバム化など不要の一枚だ。彼女の歌声に誘われて動く感情の抑揚が心地よい。キャッチャーな曲が気持ちをチアフルにするのはもちろんだが、しんみりと聴かせるメランコリックな曲でも華を失わないのが素晴らしい。さらにいいときはいいことが重なるもの。ジョージ・ハリスンののびやかなギターや十二弦が聴けるのもうれしい。
