この3枚組みは93年にリリースされた限定もののベスト。基本的にはこれの1枚目と2枚目をばら売りにしてHIT1、HIT2とそれぞれが棚に並んでいるのが通常盤。その2枚は彼の数あるヒット曲をコンセプト別に集めたもので、コンセプトの違いや余りのヒット曲の多さにバッドマンなどのヒット曲が収録されていないという現状だ。それでも満足してしまうくらい充実した内容。全盛期の頃はマイケル・ジャクソンのライバルとして、引き合いに出されていたが、彼の能力はプロデュース、演奏から映画監督まで多彩。彼の元からはジャネット・ジャクソンやBOYZ II　MENで御なじみの超大物プロデューサーチームのジャム＆ルイスや名パ-カッショニストのシーラ・Eを排出するほど（前者は遅刻でクビにされたのだが）。
ファンキーで実験的なナンバーからロックを取り入れた攻撃的なナンバーまで様々でどんなジャンルにもすっぽりハマれないような独創性で満たされている。ここ10年は色々なトラブルがあったり、作品的にも賛否両論を巻き起こすものもあったが、最新作のミュージックコロジーではオーソドックスなスタイルであるが極めて質の高いクラシック・プリンスを製作。ツアーも大成功に収め、再び全盛期が戻ろうとしている。そのタイミングでのこの作品のリリースは正に絶好の機会。
ちなみに3枚目は今では手に入らないB面収録曲が集められており、アリシア・キーズのがカバーした大ヒット曲も収録。今でも色あせていない傑作集です。

　実はこのアルバムで最も重要なのは"B-Sides"であるというのは、プリンスファンにおいての共通認識ではないだろうか。

　そもそもプリンスの曲は「アルバムの流れから外れたものは収録されない」という恐ろしい宿命を持っている。がために、アルバムに収録されなかったいい曲がB面やカップリング曲に多数収録されているのだ（それでも収まりきらず、ブートレグが山のように出ているのはご存知の通り）。

　ディアンジェロにカバーされた<14>を筆頭に、佳作曲揃い。プリンスファンを自認しているのであれば、買っておくべき。
　1&2は、まぁそれなりに聴けばよし。

殿下のアルバム全部持っていても、買って良かった３枚目のＢ面コレクション！ これらの曲がＣＤで聞けることが幸せである。
ここだけに収録されている曲もあるし、いくつかの曲がショートバージョンになってることも、これはこれで持っていた方がイイではないか！
