ロッドのしゃがれた声というのは、曲の主題を聴かせるストーリーテーラーとしては不思議な風の吹かせ方をする。人の心に土足で入る声ではない。しゃがれた音色の中にある深みが、リスナーの懐かしい部分に優しく吹いてくる。その優しさにはおそらく、しゃがれた声だからいいという側面もあるのだろう。例えばフレディマーキュリーなんかは、発声時に息が音に100％変換されるから、カーンという音でリスナーに“迫ってくる”。だがロッドの場合、音に変換されきれない空気が音に混ざり、独特の声を生んでいる。だからその音楽は切迫感よりも、妙な“甘美さ”から“安らぎ”までその空気感で覚えさせるのだ。これはもう魔法といった方が早いかもしれない。

その声のメロウさこそ、こういうアンプラグドという舞台でこそ最高に威力を発揮した。「Every Picture Tells a Story」「Have I Told You Lately」などはもう名曲として知られていながら、尚も新しい琥珀色の輝きをみせ、「People Get Ready」なんて本当に神聖なイメージが会場を包み、観客の聴こうとする雰囲気も伝わってくる。一方で「Hot Legs」「Maggie May」はアンプラグドだからこそ尚更の熱さ・グルーヴ感を観客に魅せてくれた。ロン・ウッドの出演という華も添えられ、ロッドも最高の演出に最高のパフォーマンスで応えている。ショウマンシップの魂が燃えているようだった。

音楽をありのままで伝え、更にそれ以上の効用をもってお客に楽しんでもらうこの企画は、ロッドの音楽を改めて教えてもらえる機会だった。

アコースティックでもロッドおじさんはノリノリです。
HOT LEGSはカッコよくアレンジされてると思いました。
クラプトンのように大胆なアレンジをしたりというのは
無いのですが、ロン・ウッドと本当に楽しそうにプレイ
しているのが伝わってきます。名盤です！

つい先頃も「グレイトアメリカンソングス」なんていう、あんたはフランク･シナトラかっ！とツッコミ入れたくなるようなアルバム出してたロッド・スチュワート。相変わらず軽薄で節操がなくていいね。

昔かっこ良かったロックンローラーの殆どが年食った醜態を晒している中で御多分に漏れずロッド・スチュワートも醜態を晒してくれていますが、でもいいのです。ロッド・スチュワートだけは特別。なぜなら彼は、まずロッカーである以前に一人のシンガーであり、スーパースターであったから。そしてそのスーパースターである在り様のカッコ良さがロックンロールを体現していたから。この理屈は今も変わらない。スーパースターであろうとし続けるかっこ悪さこそが彼のかっこ良さなのだ！
このＭＴＶアンプラグドのシリーズもたくさん出たけど、このロッドのがリラックスしてて一番好き。Unplugged...andSeated、なんていいながら最後は立ち上がっちゃいます。
