My Bloody Valentineの3rdにあたるアルバムです。
これ以前の音源は2ndのEcstacy And Wineを除いて非常に入手困難になっています。

次作Lovelessと比べると明らかに疾走感のある早い曲が多く、フィードバック･ノイズも控えめですが、
2.Lose My Breathや6.All I Needなど非常に耽美的な曲もあり、全体的に非常にサイケデリックです。

アルコールが回って、平衡感覚が危うくなりながらも何処か心地良い…そんな感じの雰囲気がします。
そうなると、Lovelessはさらにアルコールが回って、眠ってしまた時に見た夢の中の世界みたいにも思います。

個人的にはノイジーなギターとPOPなメロディーがカッコイイ、10.You Never Shouldがかなり好きです。

LOVELESS が光の洪水、めくるめく色彩表現であり、エクスタシーを肯定する魅惑的な内容であるのに比べ、３年前の前作であるこれは、勿論この時点でイーノを始めとする先端のヒト達をノックダウンするほどに異彩を放つ、斬新な作品である一方、モノクロ的なイメージが強い。というのは、例えば欧州的な不協和音の美しい使い方や、変則的かつ変質者的なリフの構成、ストイックそうでありながらも退廃的な感触のアレンジがそう思わせているのかもしれない。いずれにしても、この時点でケヴィンはギタリストとしても、コード弾き/リズム・ギターにアーミングを多用する、というコロンブス的手法を示したり、4ＡＤレーベルあたりに影響を受けつつもＵＳオルタナティヴ/グランジとシンクロするラウドなギター・ロックをベースにしたりと、独自性を充分感じさせてくれる内容からも、絶対ハズせないロックの名盤！

１曲目を初めて耳にした瞬間、付き合ってた彼女が実は男だった、彼氏が女だった級の衝撃を受けた。未知の世界にこんにちわ　さよならvirginity。そして２曲目lose my breathは一番大切な曲です。音楽を「この音は麻薬のようでたまらないわねえ」と形容している雑誌がよくあり、それを見るたび、執筆者のお姉さんたちに「麻薬やってるの」と聞きたくなるけど、マイブラってそういう風に形容されることが多い。麻薬が何やら知らないけれど、この浮遊感のある至福の音を真剣に聞いたら確かにトリップしたような気分にはなる。この気持ちよさは、踊り出したくなるようなThe Stone Rosesの気持ちよさとはまたちょっと違って　ヘロヘロフニャフニャしたくなるような気持ちよさ。陶酔・絶頂・昇天
