Doobie BrothersはTon Johnston期とMichael McDonald期で、テイストは違うけれど、いずれも素晴らしい業績を残したバンド。だから前期(Tom期)を好きな人にはこのアルバムは許せないようだが、"What A Fool Believes"が大好きな人には、四半世紀（！）すぎた今でも楽曲的にも、アレンジ的にも文句ないわけです。
ところで、Tom期好きな人には、"Long Train Runnin'" = 「ディスコで盛り上がる曲」という共通認識となった現在はたまらないでしょうね。

マクドナルド節がいっぱいのアルバムです。上質なポップミュージックに仕上がっており、彼のファンなら間違いなく気に入るでしょう。Real Love他、佳曲も多くお勧めです。ただ、彼が実質リーダーシップを取り始めたアルバム「Takin' it to the street」から4作目でもあり、サウンド的にちょっと飽きがきたのもこの頃だったと思います。トム・ジョンストン在席時の荒々しさが懐かしく思われたものでした。そして、オリジナルメンバーがパット・シモンズだけになり、コーネリアス・バンパス、ジョン・マックフィー他、地味（？）だが凄腕のスタジオ・ミュージシャンたちが加入して、本当にDoobie Bros.なの？って感じになっちゃいました。結局、煮詰まってしまったのか、このアルバムがMcDonald's Doobiesのラストアルバムになりました。

~ドゥービーを意識したのはアメリカントップ40にOne step closerがチャートインした頃でした。十数年後になり思い出の一曲を聴きたくてCDショップを探しましたが容易に手に入るベスト盤ではマイケルマクドナルドのヴォーカルは二三曲しか聴けません。ドゥービーの初期のアルバムではもちろんです。One step~~ closerを収録しているアルバムにもなかなか出逢いませんでした。オリジナルアルバムOne step closerをようやく見つけ所期の目的を達成することが出来ました。他のアルバムではOne step closerを収録しているやつを見たことがありません。~
