一曲目の「Hard to say I’m sorry/get away」にとても心惹かれたので、このCDを買いました。これは82’から89’までのヒット曲が入っています。当時小学生から中学生だった私はChicagoの名前すら最近まで知りませんでした。ヒット曲が多いので耳に馴染みやすく、彼らのCDを試してみたい人にはちょうどいいのではないでしょうか。お勧めはもちろん一曲目の「Hard to say I’m sorry/get away」です。このCDからは80年代の雰囲気がそのまま出ているように感じます。ちょっと懐かしいですね。

「８０年代」の活動すべてを網羅しているわけではないのですが
（８０年発表のオリジナル作品「シカゴXIV」からの選曲がないために
８２〜８８年までのベスト、という形になっています。）
何故８２年かと言うと、この年にAORの代表的なプロデューサである
デヴィッド・フォスターが、新メンバーのビル・チャンプリンを紹介する形で加入させ、
バンドの音楽を大きく売れ線AOR／バラード方面へとイメージ転換させて、
ヒットシングル「素直になれなくて」収録の「シカゴ１６」が出たのが８２年だからです。
以後、８４年に「シカゴ１７」、８６年に「シカゴ１８」、８８年に「シカゴ１９」とリリース、
いずれも大ヒットしました。
間にリード・ヴォーカリスト／ベーシストのピーター・セテラの脱退劇と
新メンバー／ジェイソン・シェフの加入という出来事もありますが、
全般的に、この頃の音は当時のアメリカの売れ線の音を地でいくシカゴ第２の黄金期のそれとなります。
順番で行くと「シカゴ２０」となるはずの作品がこういうベストに差し替えられ、
ドラムスのダニー・セラフィンがこの時点で解雇されてしまって、９０年代の
落ち目の始まりとなるのですが。。

今ではシカゴの全ディスコグラフィを追いかけて、初期の良さも知っているのですが、
それまではこのようなベスト盤がシカゴのすべて、と思っていました。
単純に、すべてが聴きやすく、良い曲ぞろいです。

１９６７年結成のバンド、かなりのメンバーチェンジを経てここまで生き残っているしぶとい長寿バンド。フロンマンにより時期を分割できるようだが、ピーターセテラ、ビルチャンプリン、ジェイソン　シェフがフロントになった時期のようである。なもんで複数のボーカリストを楽しむことができる。低迷期をなんども有能な売れ線プロデューサーでてこいれしながら生き抜いてきた彼等のヒット曲が網羅されている。
バラエティーに富む一枚。ＡＯＲファン向けか
