Japanese only SHM Pressing. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. Warner. 2009.

スペインを髣髴とさせるアルバムであるとともに晩年のマイルスの結節点とも呼べる傑作である。スパニッシュ･モードが好きなマイルスは1959年のスケッチ･オブ･スペインを始め、カインド･オブ･ブルーでもフラメンコ･スケッチという曲を収録している。またこのアルバムは映画のサウンド・トラック盤でもあり、この点では死刑台のエレベーター、ジャック･ジョンソンらと同系のラインにある。映画のイメージに接近しながらも瞬時に自己のオリジナリティを発揮するマイルスの天才を感じる仕事である。常に時代の中で停滞する事を潔しとしなかったマイルスにとって映画という素材とスペインというイメージの故郷によって生まれた作品であり、クラッシックなマイルスファンにとってはこたえらないムードをたたえた美しいアルバムである。

1987年発表。複数のニューヨーク、ノースハリウッドのスタジオで録音。ギル・エバンスに捧げられている。
ギルに捧げれている理由は容易に理解出来る。ギルとマイルスがコラボレートしてきたスパニッシュものを意識してのことだろう。27年前の『スケッチ・オブ・スペイン』のことを二人のファンならすぐに思い浮かべる（●＾o＾●）。ほとんどの楽器をマーカス・ミラーが『TUTU』の時のようにこなしていて、それ以外の部分もマイルス・バンドの腕利きたちが多数参加し、御大マイルスがペットを吹き鳴らすという嗜好である。プロデュースもマーカス・ミラーでエグゼティブ・プロデューサーにダイアナ・クラールとのコンビで最近とみに有名なトミー・リピューマが参加している。
アルバム・タイトルでもある『SIESTA』は『昼下がり』の意味である。日本では映画より先に本作が発表された。マイルスは本作の発表に合わせて1987年10月30日のスウェーデンを皮切りにデンマーク→西ドイツ→フランス→オランダ→スペイン!!!→イタリヤ→スイス→アメリカ・テキサスという大規模な23回のコンサートを開催している。体力も回復したマイルスにファンはシビレタ（●＾o＾●）。
映画『SIESTA』の監督マリー・ランバートはマドンナの『ライク・ア・バージン』とかシーラ・Eの『グラマラス・ライフ』とかのビデオ・ディレクターをした人である。まあ、僕は正直映画はどうでもいいのである（●＾o＾●）。個人的には標題曲がジョン・スコフィールドのギターが効いてて一番好きだ。

このアルバムは、映画のサウンドトラックとして世に出されました。音楽はまーカス・ミラーが担当。僕も最初はとっつきにくいと思っていましたが、聞くたびにはまっていくはまっていく。パブロ・ピカソの絵を見るかのようでした。「なんだか小さな女の子がさらわれていくような」、すこし不気味、でも美しい音楽が展開されています。映画のほうも必見です。
