You can dance and you probably will if you put on this 1987 compilation of the material girl's best jams. The eight-and-a-half minute "Into the Groove", remixed by Shep Pettibone, may be Madonna's single best tune and it's sure to fill the dance floor. There are only 10 tracks here, and a couple of songs get multiple remixes, but you do get "Holiday" and "Everybody", lesser known but not lesser grooves. Madonna had a few dance hits after this collection came out, and one day they'll most likely be a Madonna dance box set, but until then this will give you a fine aerobic workout. --Charles R. Cross

学生時代カセットテープで聴きまくった、なつかしの１枚です。
まず前半、初期の作品のノンストップメドレーがとても自然で心地よい。特にHolidayが大好き！
リミックスですが、原曲のよさはそのままにうまくアレンジされていると思います。

そしてラストまでまったく間延びせず聴ける、パワフルでエネルギッシュな構成が◎
体が自然に動いてしまう…　まさに「You Can Dance」です♪
今聴くとたしかに懐かしい感じの音に感じますが、やはりノリが心地よく十分楽しめます。
久々に聴いてみると懐かしいと同時に新鮮で　改めてよいアルバムだと認識できました。
ジャケ写も凄く素敵。まさに《マドンナの原点》という感じでお勧めです。

はじめにジャケットありき（＾＾
真っ赤なバックに大ヒット「LA ISLA BONITA」を即連想させるファッション、当時TVCFでもよく目にしたため、鮮烈に記憶に残っています。
ダンスアルバムを発売するとの情報を聞いて、当時それはそれは楽しみにしていたのですが、実際収録曲を目にして思ったのは「何故今この曲なのか？」と。ヒットしていない訳ではないけれど、「LIKE A VIRGIN」「MATERIAL GIRL」「OPEN YOUR HEART」などと比べるとやはり「地味」なイメージの曲ばかり。それに「SPOTLIGHT」って・・・・いつの曲だろう？などなど、とにかく疑問だらけでした。

ライナーを読んで、これをリリースする経緯についてやっと理解。実際に音を聴いてみて、文句ナシに楽しめるダンスアルバムだと実感しました。
前半は1stアルバムから3曲と、同期の音源「SPOTLIGHT」をノンストップミックス。「HOLIDAY」「EVERYBODY」はグルーヴはそのままに曲の個性を浮かび上がらせる如く、ゴテゴテしたリミックススタイルは敢えてとられてない雰囲気です。しかしオリジナルを聞き慣れた耳には確実に違った刺激が伝わってきますし、この4曲はかなりスムースなメドレー化に成功していると思います。

終盤はとにかくエネルギッシュ。凄まじいまでにパーカッシブに変貌を遂げた7分を超える「OVER AND OVER」はリミックスの面白さを端的に表現。唯一（？）メジャーシングルな「INTO THE GROOVE」がS・ペティボーンの手により8分超のダンスミックスへ改作。ライブでも披露される長いピアノソロがフィーチュアされ、「洗練」という言葉がピッタリのヴァージョンに仕上がっています。そのままノンストップでなだれ込む「WHERE'S THE PARTY」も7分オーバーのリミックスで、クラッピングやバックボーカルが雰囲気を盛り上げ、自然に体が動き出すことウケアイ（＾＾　です。

どの収録曲も原曲を理解不能なまでに破壊する手法ではなく、オリジナルを更に昇華させるベクトルで改作されている点が、私にはたまらない魅力。これからも大切にしたい一枚です。

1987年にリリースされた本作は、ノンストップ･リミックス･アルバム。
当時、「Who's That Girl World Tour 1987」でマドンナ旋風を巻き起こした
直後にリリースされたこともあり、日本でも大ヒット！

このアルバムのテーマはもちろん【ダンス】である。
マドンナはニューヨークのディスコから登場したスターであった。

その後、ポップス界の頂点にのぼりつめたマドンナが、「初心を
忘れていない」というメッセージがこめられていると思う。

それは選曲からもよくわかる。リリース当時は、
すでにアルバム「トゥルー・ブルー」も大ヒットした後であるが、
このアルバムのほとんどは、ファースト･アルバムからの選曲である。

今でもコンサートでは必ずパフォーマンスしてくれる「ホリディ」も
その一つだ。
リリースからすでに15年以上経過した今なお、体が自然にリズムを打つ。
マドンナは常に時代の!先端を走る。その原点がここにある！

マドンナ、と言えばダンス。Holidayはじめ、どの曲も踊れる、有名な曲ばかり。もし、マドンナのCDを一枚ももってない、としたらこれがおすすめです。
