殿下の作品でどうしてもどうしても、どうしても１枚選ばなくちゃいけないってなったら？？？・・・この過酷な質問の答えがこのアルバムだ！
激しい殿下もいい。シャイな殿下もいい。だが、油の乗り切った「大人の」殿下の一面を覗きたいなら、これ。
パープルの雨の後の濡れた階段で、この奇跡をぜひ！

同じように感じた方がいらっしゃるんだなあ。。。。。
私は、Purple Rainからハマリ、Around The World....で、いい意味で裏切られ、
PARADEで度肝を抜かれました。このアルバムは、リリースされてから、
毎日、半年間聞き続けました。聞けば聞くほど、益々虜になっていったのです。
KISSは、歌詞の内容がいいなあと思い、いつも口ずさみながら聞いていたものです。
１枚選ぶとしたら、PARADEか、Sign 'o' The Timesか、非常に迷う所であります。
このアルバムと同じような衝撃を受けた物はまだ無いです。。。。。
リリースから２０年近くたった現在でも、めぐりあっておりません。

この頃のプリンスといったら、とどまるところを知らない成長･進み具合だった。前々作「パープルレイン」でプリンスのとりこになってしまった僕たちは、「レッツ・ゴー・クレイジー」のギターソロのノリの新作アルバムを期待し、「アラウンド・ザ・ワールド・イン・ア・デイ」で思いっきり裏切られる。同様に本作「パレード」でもそうだった。。。
前作のアルバム以降、完全に独壇場となってしまった渋谷陽一大先生のライナーノーツには、毎度毎度「時代を１０年先取りする傑作だ」とかいてあったが、正直初めて聞いたときには、期待と違う印象に戸惑いながら聞いたものだ。
しかし、このアルバムは、発売から２０年近くたっても、まったく色あせない。当時の曲を集めたコンピ盤の中にこのアルバムの収録曲の「KISS」がはいっていたが、この曲のみ浮いていた。「懐かしい」のは他の曲同様もちろんあるが、際立って新しいのだ。全然古くない。時代を創り続けていっている最中でのアルバム「PARADE」であり、名曲「KISS」だからだろう。完全に無駄な部分を削ぎ落とし、刃物のように研ぎ澄まされたサウンドだ。すごい。
僕のような愚人には一回でこのアルバムの良さは分からなかったが、何回も聞いていくと、素晴らしさは絶対に分かってくる。そんなアルバムだ。
