E.B.T.Gのセカンド 1985年作。
ジャケット写真からして、音を語っているというか、ネオアコ好きの人には、おそらくビビっとくるジャケットですね。音のほうも間違いはなく、1曲目「When all's well」からしてE.B.T.G史上最もネオアコ度の高い疾走感のあるキラーチューンですし、その後のアルバムの雰囲気にも青さ漂う曲が多いです。この後の彼らは、相当コンテンポラリー色を強め、ネオアコ的なものから離れていくわけですが、このアルバムでおそらくそういう感じは出し切ったのでしょう。ここには、彼らの若さ溢れる感覚がストレートに表現されていると思います。インナーの写真のトレイシーなんか髪の毛ツンツンに逆立てて、すごくバンドっぽくていいです。そうこのアルバムは、彼らのキャリアの中で、最もバンドっぽいと言えるのではないでしょうか。アズテックやペイル･ファウンテンズの1stと同じ匂いがここにあります。

その高い音楽性とは裏腹に、ジャケットはあまりにイマイチなEBTGですが、この２色刷りのジャケットは彼らの全史において奇跡のように素晴らしい。ソングライターのBEN WATTのコンポージングはボッサを基調としたものでしたが、このEBTGの２枚目のアルバムは思いっきりネオ・アコースティックな作品となっています。煌びやかにまぶしいギターの音色に彩られた楽曲が並んでいますが、BENがこの作品を後に「怒りのアルバム」と振り返ったように、その歌詞は時に赤裸々でアイロニカルで辛辣。不純物に対する疑念、それを一言で言い換えるなら「love not money」。

1985年の2nd。Edenとは対照的なリズムへのアプローチ。メジャーコードへの接近。上昇と高揚感を多く含んだこのアルバムは初期のETBGの中でも好きな1枚。ETBGは色々な表情を持っている。でもいつでもBen Wattはsolo時代のイメージから遠くに離れることはない。この不思議な距離感はこの人たちの強い信念と自然体のアプローチが生み出したある種の奇跡。

アッパーで上昇感溢れるWhen All's Well、乾いたフォークロック感覚に分数コードの湿り気を上手に混ぜ合わせたAre You Trying to Be Funny?、よどみなく流れるBallad of the Timesの練られた旋律。Muzacに向かいそうで向かわない初期ETBGの中では最もアッパーな傾向をもったアルバム。
