The party was pretty much over for Fleetwood Mac by 1982; the blockbuster pop classics Fleetwood Mac and Rumors were mid-1970s memories, 1979's Tusk had been a grand experiment but a commercial bust, and Stevie Nicks had already launched a solo career. Still, that didn't mean Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and Christine McVie couldn't continue to write engaging, appealing pop in their sleep. Mirage has a handful of high points any Mac fan would appreciate, from Buckingham's soulful "Book of Love" to Nicks's twirl-inducing "Gypsy" to McVie's catchy "Love in Store." Overall, the Mac's magic touch seems usurped by a band merely going through the motions--but those motions still resulted in a few worthwhile moments. --Peter Blackstock

これは珠玉のポップアルバムで、全部の曲がキラキラしている印象です。まさにクリスタル・マックって感じがします。
ポップって音楽のジャンルは定義が難しいと思いませんか？
Mirageはポップという音楽のジャンルが1つ確立されたアルバムなのです。
（私の中で、、、は、は。）
tango in the nightほど派手でもなく、ましてやまとまりもあるし、

噂、ほど期待大で聴かなくてもいいし、、、、。
なので一番好きですねー。
噂、よりもサウンドも新しい感じがしますし。

ベスト１はBook of loveですねーー。イントロのギター→スティービィーのコーラス→リンジーの歌とそのバックに聴こえてくるコーラス。
サビの高音もいいですねー。
あんまり他の人書いていないですが、どうしてでしょう。

後、ジプシーも好きですね、Dreamsよりいいかもしれない。
That's allrightのフォークテイストもなんともいいし。。この曲はポンキッキでも使われてたんですよーー。

もーおすすめです。

ジャケットからも「枯れた味わい」「老練」のイメージが漂うが、結構良曲が揃っている。貫禄でビルボード・アルバムチャート１位を５週キープした。特にクリスティン・マクヴィーの充実ぶりを評価したい。大ヒットした「Hold Me」はもとより、ラストの「Wish You Were Here」もしみじみ聴かせる知られざる名曲。84年に初のソロ作をリリースした彼女はこの頃がキャリアの最盛期か。スティービー・ニックスの「Gypsy」もいかにも彼女らしく捨てがたい。アルバム全体としてはちょっと薄味だが、気負いなく底力を見せた佳作。

フリートウッドマックのNo1アルバムと言うとどうしてもやはり、「噂」なのでしょうが、このMirage（陽炎）ではリンジー・バッキンガムがひげ剃ってます。
噂のあとの2枚組みアルバム「Tusk」までは一応ひげがあって、まあそれはいいとして、ある程度同じ路線でした。アクースティックな、緻密な積み重ねサウンドで透明感のある曲に奥行きを持たせています。

このアルバムは本当に「ポップス」当時のレコーディング技術の発展にも大きく影響を受け、サウンドも微妙に変化しています。
ひげそって、80年代に溶け込もうという意欲が感じられます。

やはりリンジーは暗い曲がおおいですね。

80年代のポップスに対応している女性陣に比べると、音楽面のリーダーだったはずのリンジーだけが取り残されている感じがあります。
クリスティン・マクビーはいつ聞いても楽しいハッピー・サウンド

スティーヴィー様はルーツであるカントリーミュージックや、輝くようなポップス、前年リリースのソロアルバム”麗しのベラ・ドンナ"を思わせるロックサウンドと、多彩ぶりを発揮しています。

やはりこのアルバムの一番は「ジプシー」リンジーもこれがスティービーとの最高の共作（作曲ではなく演奏・編曲で）と認めています。

このアルバムで顕在化した、3人のソングライターのそれぞれの個性の伸長は、それがあまりに独特のカラー過ぎて、グループとしてまとまった雰囲気を作り出せないところにまで来た、ということをあらわしていたわけです。

このあとこのメンバーでは最後となる「タンゴ・イン・ザ・ナイト」までしばらくグループとしてはお休みをし、その間にスティーヴィーも、クリスティーンもリンジーもソロをやるということになったわけで、彼らが一番よくお互いの道が離れていくことを知っていたのかなと思います。
