概してどんなア-ティストでもバンドでも初期の作品の方が純度が高いものだが、このバンドもその１つ。'70に発表されたこの作品はBilly Gibonsの硬質のギタ-と、シンプルでテキサス特有の乾いたサウンドが魅力だった。（今はかなり、変貌しているが）しかしBillyのギタ-はテキサスブル-ズのスタイルではなく、どちらかと言えば初期のPeter Greenの影響が強いようだ。ZZ Topを聞くなら、4thアルバムのライブ盤あたりまでがお薦めです。因みにBillyは知る人ぞ知るブル-ズコレクタ-だそうです。日本に来るとアメリカでは入手困難なP-Vine盤をいっぱい買って帰るそうです。

ギター担当Ｂｉｌｌｙによって結成されたテキサスのブルースロックトリオ、ＺＺ Ｔｏｐの１９７０年デビューアルバム。３０年以上経った今でも同じメンバーでハイクオリティのブルースロックをやり続ける、大尊敬できる人達。本作は当時の他のロックバンド同様、ブルースに深く根ざしたロックを展開している。かなり地味な印象かもしれないが、既にその後のＺＺ ＴＯＰ流ロックの片鱗を感じさせるようなヘヴィで泥臭く乾いた極上のブルースがびっしり。ＺＺ ＴＯＰのキャリアの中でも特に７０年代までが好きといったファンは気に入るだろうが、「eliminater」が最高傑作とするファンには、ちと聞き辛いかも・・・。
