初期のDEEP　PURPLEはキーボードのジョンロードが主導権を握っていたと思う。　しかしCREAMに始まりLED　ZEPPELINが可能性を広げたブルース・ロック、元々ジャズ上りのリッチー・ブラックモアの確かなテクニックを前面に出し強烈なギターリフとハイスピードのギターソロでたたみ掛ける@HIGHWAY　STARやギターソロ以外なら誰でも弾けるDSMOKE　ON　THE　WATER等代表曲を収録し、その他の曲もとても印象的でカッコイイギターリフを聞かせてくれます。　ブルースロックが進化して出来たハードロックというジャンルでハード・ロックとはこうあるべきだ、こうじゃないといけないという様式美をこのＤＥＥＰ　ＰＵＲＰＬＥのＭＡＣＩＮＥ　ＨＥＡＤである種の完成を見る。　ハードロックというジャンルを確立させた歴史に残る一枚

このアルバムは通常ＣＤ、ＤＶＤ-A、ＳＡＣＤで発売されています。パープルが大好きだ、リッチー信者だ、またはあまりパープルの凄さが理解出来ないという方、迷わずＳＡＣＤ盤の購入をお薦めします。ＳＡＣＤでは強烈なサウンドでパープルのリッチーの凄さが体験できます。
まだＳＡＣＤ対応プレイヤーを持っていないという方でも、ハイブリット盤ですのでＣＤ再生が出来ますし、ＤＳＤマスタリングで通常ＣＤより抜群に音がいいです。

パープルを語るなら、リッチーを語るなら、まずＳＡＣＤを聴いてから。

欧米でリッチーの評価が日本に比べ低いのは音質の悪さも原因のひとつと考えられる。
「たいしたことないよ」という輩にＳＡＣＤ盤でぶっとばしてやりたい

評価は★★★になってますが、ＳＡＣＤ盤は★★★★★★★★★★

　こんな名盤のレビューなんて、恐れ多くてまともに書けないっス（笑）。なので肩の力抜いて書きます。ロック小僧のほとんどが聞くであろうこのアルバム、しょっぱなからハイウェイスターなわけですよ。野球にたとえれば、先発に高津を出してもう一点もやれんぞ、ていう感じなわけですよ！　これだけでもこのアルバムは聞かなくちゃいけません。
　で、２３４と渋めな曲が来るんですが、このアルバムの場合、メインの曲が有名すぎて聞き飽きてるんで、かえってこちらのほうが好きになってしまいます（笑）。
　そして、いよいよクリンナップに突入！スモークオンザウォ-ターです。その昔、西田ひかるがスターかくし芸大会でプレイしたほどの名曲なわけですよ！西田の鬼気迫るプレイもこの曲があってこそです!よく分かりませんが（笑）。
　続いてもレイジー、スペーストラッキンと、ノゲイラ張りの三段締め、もとい三角絞めです。この破壊力ただ事じゃありません！
　まあ、このアルバムは聞くというより持ってることが重要なので、たとえモーニング娘しか聞かない人でもお金ためて買いましょう。以上です。
