The Detail Goes Down to the Warner Brothers Inner Sleeve (Which Typically Solicited Compilations of Other Label Artists) and the Version of the Label Used on the Original Album. This Package also Includes Full Lyrics (In English as Well as Japanese).

~1975年発表当時、全米予約だけでミリオン・セラーを記録したアルバム。
ジャケット同様に疾走感のあるこれぞアメリカン・ロックと唸らせる曲の数々。
以前から親交があったSteely Danのジェフ・バクスターが加入したことで、
ダブル・ドラムス＆トリプル・ギター編成となり、よりパワーアップしたサウンドと
アンサンブルが心地よい。
SWEET MAXINE、TAKE ME IN YOUR~~ ARMS(ROCK ME A LITTLE WHILE)のヒット曲
収録で、I CHEAT THE HANGMANも素晴しく、いろんな要素を詰め込んだ
バラエティにも富んだ作品に仕上がっている。~

当時「ブラック・ウォーター」がヒットしていて、その路線かと思って購入したんですが、ハード・ブギからバラードまでなんでもあり。さらにそのレベルの高さに驚いたことを思い出します。オープニングでリトル・フィートからの助っ人ビル・ペインのピアノのイントロからディストーションの効いたギター、さらにリズム隊が絡んで、歌が入る頃には、もうドゥービーワールド全開。さらにハードな2、壮大なバラード3、カーティス・メイフィールドの編曲による4、アコギ2本による神業プレー5までのアルバムA面はまさに完璧な流れでしょう。その後にもプログレチックな7、ライ・クーダーをゲストに招いたアコースティック・ブルースの9と聞き所満載。トム・ジョンストンが率いてた頃の彼らの最高傑作であるとともに、アメリカンロックの最高峰。レコード発売時のジャケットスリーブに「ツェッペリンと肩を並べるビッグバンドに成長」というような文句があって、当時は言いすぎかなと思ったんですが、今となってはあながち誇張ではないかなと思っています。一人でも多くの人に聞いて欲しい一枚です。

マイク・マクドナルドが加入する以前の、ウェスト・コースト・ロックの本流を行くようなアルバム。

脱退後も最もドゥービーらしいと言われたトム・ジョンストンのボーカルはもちろん健在。もう一人の顔パトリック・シモンズはコンポーザーとしても大活躍。ジェフ・バクスターの都会的なエッセンスも加えて、荒々しくも、計算された最高の音作りがなされている。
ホーンとストリングスのアレンジも絶品。
