デイヴィッド・カヴァーデル、グレン・ヒューズと
２人のVoを迎えて製作された第三期DEEP PURPLEの１作目にして、名盤！
A面（１〜４）は今までのDEEP PURPLEなヘヴィでハードなナンバーが並び、
B面（５〜８）では、実験的な今までになかったような楽曲が並びます。

オープニングの「Burn」は、色あせる事なきロックアンセムです。
皆さんが語っているとおり、リフやVoのシャウト共々素晴らしく、これぞDEEP PURPLE！
お気に入りは「You Fool No One」と「Mistreated」。
前者は、ラテンのリズムをベースにしたようなファンキーなナンバーで、
爽快感にあふれ、２人のVoが本当にカッコいい！
後者は、RAINBOWのライヴでも定番の曲です。
スローでヘヴィに始まり、リッチーのギターソロからラストまで一気に畳み掛ける！
そのギターソロはRAINBOWに繋がるような“狂気”のプレイで、必聴です！
また、アルバム内の解説にもあるとおり、デイヴィッドのVoが本当に男臭くてセクシー！
他には、「Might Just Take Your Life」、「Lay Down Stay Down」も良い。

SHM-CDになり、音質がよくなりましたが、中でも「Mistreated」の音は凄い！
デヴィッドの息遣いまでリアルに聞こえ、リッチーのギターに芯が太く、重みがあります。
これだけでも買う価値ありで、SHMはこういうスローなナンバーに最適だと感じました。

ロックフリークなら１度は耳にしたことのある｢Burn｣のギターリフ。未だに古さを感じさせないこの曲は、今後もロック史の名曲として残っていくだろう。特にギターソロはスピード感とメロディが心地よく融合され、当時のリッチーブラックモアの個性がよく表れている。

また｢Mistreated｣はリッチーがRainbowのライブでも好んで演奏していた佳曲。イングヴェイの｢INSPIRATION｣にも収録されている。

最後はボロボロになって崩壊した第2期DEEP PURPLE。
彼らは無名のディヴィッド・カヴァデール(Vo)とグレン・ヒューズ(B,Vo)を迎え入れて
バンドの再生を図る。

本作は'74年にリリースされた第3期DEEP PURPLEの初作品。
このアルバムは永遠の名曲"Burn"から幕を開ける。
クラシカルな要素を随所に盛り込んだこのハード・ロック・チューンの持つ輝きは、

発表から30年を経た今でも全く色褪せる事が無い。
すべての基本がここにある。

アルバム全体で見るとブルージーな要素が強まり、第2期で完成されたDEEP PURPLEサウンドに
また新たな要素が加えられた感じ。
2本のVoが完璧に生かされており、この頃のDEEP PURPLEがいかに凄いラインナップでやっていたかを
嫌というほど思い知らせてくれる。

永遠の名盤。
