ドゥービースの名を世界に知らしめたセカンドアルバムで、大傑作アルバムです。
この作品から「出すアルバムすべてがプラチナディスク何枚分にもなる」超売れっ子になりましたが、一作目はまるで鳴かず飛ばずだったようで、このToulouse Streetが売れなかったら解散しようという、背水の陣で出したアルバムだったとのことです。

曲調は完全にブルース・ロックですが、パットのフォーク趣味、トムのロック趣味やジャズ趣味などが相まって、「ドゥービー節」ともいえる、例の独特の雰囲気を醸し出しています。

よくマイケル・マクドナルド参加以前とか、フュージョン化する前のドゥービースを否定的に見る評論家がいますが、そういった人の多くがグラミー賞を獲ったかどうかということで評価しています。
本当の音楽の評価はそんな賞では測れません。

本来のドゥービースのサウンドは、本作や次回作「キャプテン・アンド・ミー」のようなものであって、カルフォルニアでバイク野郎に愛された音楽性こそが本物です（後期の曲も好きだけど）。
バンド名もまさしくそれを体現しています。
The Doobie Brothersは、もともとパットがフォークバンドを作ろうとして全米中からメンバーを探してきて作ったバンドです。

ところが集まったのはフォークミュージシャンではなく、カントリー、ジャズ、ロックンローラーでした。
「ごった煮バンド」、ドゥービーズはそれぞれの長所を活かし、世界に類例のない独自のサウンドを生み出しています。
今では古い感もあるとはいえ、新しい音楽を創造しつつあった彼らの勢いには思わずハッと息を呑む瞬間があります。

やっと発売しました。
紙ジャケでシリアルナンバー入りで限定版ぽっくていいですね〜
SACDのおかげか音もかなり良くなって大満足です。

ブルースカバーの６、ゴスペル／バーズカバーの７、ドライビングロックのお手本的２と、それぞれいいんですが、なんと言ってもＬｉｓｔｅｎ　Ｔｏ　Ｔｈｅ　Ｍｕｓｉｃですよね。自分で曲を書いた経験の或る人なら、「ころぞまさに代表曲！」といわれる一曲を書き上げられる可能性がどんなに小さなものか、わかってもらえると思うんですが、イントロが流れてきただけで「おっ？｝と思わせてしまうこんな曲が書けたんだから、トムも幸せだなぁ。
