シンガーソングライターとしての彼の才能が大爆発したのが本アルバム。特にアナログA面に当たる１〜５曲の流れは信じられない位素晴らしい！聴けば聴くほど心に響いてくる独特な声とメロディ。他のアーティストの傑作と明らかに違うのは彼の音楽は決して「完成」させない所だと思う。簡素なアレンジに終始し楽曲が生まれた生々しさを損なわず瞬間真空パックしたような感じかな。最近いろんなアーティストの発掘音源でデモテープみたいなものがやけに感動したりするけど、NEILの音楽はそういう魅力に尽きると思う。今作が好きになれなかった人は彼の音楽とは縁が無かったと思ってあきらめた方がいい。Don't Let It Bring You Downはまさに天から降りてきたようなメロディ！絶対神懸ってますね、これは。他のアーティストにカバーされる曲もこのアルバムからの選曲が多いです。

凄く絶望したり、望んだことに失望したり、孤独を感じたりしたらこのアルバムをお薦めしたい。
表題が示すように「祭りが終わった後」の寂しさが暗闇の中の一筋の光のように一曲一曲がともしびみたく感じられます。
「お城が燃えているだけ、もう大丈夫だから」

真っ向勝負のストレートなサウンドとメッセージ。ニール・ヤングのこのアルバムは時代を超え、国境をも超える普遍性がある。
映画「アメリカン・ビューティ」のラストシーン間近でもカヴァーされていた「ドン・レット・イット・ブリング・ユー・ダウン」。
涙がでるくらいいいアルバムです。

アナログ時代からここ３０年ほど何度も買ったり、売ったり、買いなおしたりしているアルバムですが、ニール・ヤングの良さがわかってきたのは４０歳に近くなってからのような気がします。この作品を２０代で作ってしまったニールの早世さもものすごいことです。若いファンの方には現在ピンとこない人はいると思いますが、おそらく年とともにじわじわとそのよさがわかってくることだと思います。永遠のマスター・ピースですので是非とも一度は聴いておいてほしいアルバムです。

ところで、これは紙ジャケではないのでしょうかね？ぜひとも紙ジャケで出してもらいたいところです。
