このＣＤの初期発売分はケースが薄くて（通常のＣＤケース）、解説と歌詞がうまくしまうことが出来ません。ジャケットの隅が破れたり、すれてはげたりします。
その為か、現在は少し厚手のケースにかわっています（ストーンズの「４０リックス」と同じケース）。

品番は同じなので店頭で確認したほうがいいです。

と、いうか僕は買いなおしました（買い直してしまうくらい、いい内容）。

バッファロー・スプリングフィールドからスティーブン・スティルスとの太陽への旅路までのベストです。サウンド傾向が変わっても根がしっかりしている人だからまるで一枚のオリジナル・アルバムを聴いているように私には聞こえます。ある意味彼にとって苦闘の時期だったこのころを乗り越えて今の良い歳の取り方をしている彼になったのではないでしょうか。私の宝物。

タイトルが示すとおり、67年から77年までの10年間の代表作を集めた編集盤です。無論この間にリリースされた10枚以上ある作品からCD2枚分でのピックアップは土台無理な話ですが、ベスト盤が比較的少ない状況で彼の初期の作品をレビューするには最適なセレクトと思います。
バッファロー時代からはStonesっぽい"Mr. Soul"とBeatlesの影響大の"Broken arrow"をセレクト。ソロ直後、Neil版ロックの原点的な名作・名演"Down by the river"、"Cowgirl in the sand"では例のワイルドなギターソロをたっぷり披露してくれます。また、独特なリリカルさが美しい"After the gold rush"や"Harvest"といった人気曲もバランスよく盛り込まれています。
個人的には彼独特のバラッド"Tired eyes"､"Cortez the killer"がしっかりセレクトされていること、コンパクトながら味わい深い"Tonight"s the night"、"Love is the rose"などももらさず収録していることから丁寧な編集が嬉しい限り。

ここ10年のエネルギッシュなNeilの活躍もすでに原点はここ、というより全く軸は変わってないことが再確認できます。そう、武骨とも思える力強さとリリカルな繊細さの同居、そして確かな"歌心"です。
