The pill-popping, strip-bar-ogling, beer-guzzling Texas combo takes Metallica's speed-metal cues to new heights of brutality and sacrilege. Fortunately, they're extremely good at what they do. The polyrhythmic complexity of Vinnie Paul's drumming in "Psycho Holiday" and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell's breathtaking solo in "Heresy" are examples of state-of-the-art metal musicianship. Vocalist Phil Anselmo often sounds like Metallica's James Hetfield, but his brooding croon on "Cemetery Gates" and his falsetto screams on the blindingly fast "Shattered" are more like vintage Deep Purple. 　最高にキッズ受けする奴だった。とにかく、ティーンエイジャーのアンテナに引っ掛かる「何かしら」の要素を持ち合わせたギタリスト、ダイムバック。「爆音」「変形ギター」「酒オクスリ」「タトゥー」「長髪」「ヒゲ」・・・片田舎の「オラが町のヒーロー」だったアンチャンは、ギターに関しては「本気」だった。

　正直、ダイムバックのクラシカルフォームでの演奏を初めて見た時は「ブッタまげた」。しかも、本人がランディローズの影響下にある事を知った時「二度ビックリ！！」。「西海岸三人集も世代交代だな・・・」と、印象をもった憶えがある。機材に関しても、彼のポリシーが貫かれており、職人気質な一面も垣間見れた。

　発売当時はリズム隊の音録りに不満を感じたが、今ではコレも有りかなと思える。Atcoだしレーベルは・・・う〜ん、出るのかな？風説の流布じゃないけど、そろそろでしょ「紙ジャケ・リマスタ」・・・ライノに期待してます。解説じゃねぇ・・・申し訳ない

はっきりいってボーカルが咆哮型のメタルは好きではないが、彼らは別格。
スピード感溢れる強烈なリフと、ブリブリの重低音サウンドがストレスを忘れさせてくれる。
それでいて勢いだけはなく、ちゃんと引きの部分やバランスも計算されており
彼らのセールスポイントでもあるキャッチーな部分をかもしだしている。

また、やりつくされた感のあるこのジャンルに、新しいスタイルを開拓したと言っても過言ではないだろう。
彼らのアルバムは何枚か持っているが、個人的にはこの作品がＮｏ１。

パンテラの記念すべきファーストアルバム。
このアルバムにより、彼らは一躍有名になるだけでなく、
当時のヘヴィロックシーンに多大な影響を与えることになる。

パンテラは独特の味を持つ激しいリフと、シャウトボーカルがウリである。
激しいけれど、どこかリズミカル。そんな感じだ。
このアルバムはそんな彼らの味がよく出てる名盤だと思う。
また激しいだけでなく、５曲目のCemetery Gatesのような
アコースティックギターを用いた叙情感溢れる歌ものの曲もある。

叩きつけるようなボーカル。
時に激しく、時に叙情的なギター。
岩をぶっ叩き砕くようなドラム。

そんなパンテラ独自の激しさに浸りたい人は、
まずこのアルバムを手に取ってもらいたい。
とにかく、激しいヘヴィロックが好きな人は聞いてまず損はない。
