Frequently bootlegged and now digitally remastered by Jimmy Page, these tapes capture a 25-month (1969 to 1971) arc in which Zep's sound grew to encompass the speed rush and jazz/blues festival stuff of their 1969 debut, the fully developed folkie musings of "Going to California" (in which Plant vowed to make a hejira right up to Joni Mitchell's front door), and the band's modestly popular multilayered epic "Stairway to Heaven." The Sessions also give a glimpse of nearly off-the-cuff invention in an intense take on Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues". Most other white blues musicians would've rushed to get this on vinyl; Page and Plant instead used it for parts, most notably taking its profound acoustic freneticism for Led Zeppelin III. --Rickey Wright

LED ZEPPELINのライヴといえば「THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME」が古くからのファンには有名であり私も愛聴しているが、グループ初期の熱気を知るには本作のほうが相応しいだろう。Robert Plantの猛烈な金切り声を筆頭に、４人のメンバーの若かりし時代の迸る熱気が伝わってくる。演奏も選曲も素晴らしい。マスタリングもJimmy Pageらしく完璧で、古さを全く感じない。筆者は当時４〜６歳くらいだったので、リアルタイムでは全く触れることが出来なかったが、このような貴重な音源が後世に残されていたことがとても嬉しい。なお筆者はLED ZEPPELINを聴き出すとキリがなくなる性格なので、本作をベストアルバムの代わりに使っている。
Disc-1は全曲1969年の音源であるが、[01]〜[10]は２つの音源から構成され、いわゆるスタジオライヴなので歓声や拍手などは入っていない。[11]〜[14]はちょっとしたショウで歓声や拍手が入る。Disc-1における一部の曲の重複はこのためである。Disc-2は1971年４月のショウで、四枚目のアルバムがリリースされる半年前のライヴだったことになる。

レッドツェッペリンがラジオやTV番組で演奏したのは、初期の数年だけです。それだけにこのアルバムに収録されている都合24曲は極めて貴重と言えるでしょう。個人的にはDISC 1 の方が興味深く聴くことができました。69年の、放送用音源とはいえここまで綺麗な音で聴くことができるのです。文句などあろうはずがありません。関係者一同に感謝! DISC 2 のほうは、ZEPマニアには耳タコ音源ですが、やはりここまでのクオリティのものはありませんでした。この時代のジミーペイジってかっこいいよね。髭もじゃで通称ルンペンルック、この格好で、虎もくのレスポールをダランと垂らして金属的なフレーズを連発するんだぜ!ドラゴンスーツよりこっちのほうが私は好きです。ところで私にとってこのアルバムとは、ZEPファンで良かったなぁーって心から思えるアルバム、そういう存在です。皆さんも、何度も何度も繰り返し聴いてみてください。きっとZEPファンで良かったなぁーって思えるはずですよ!

これほど唸らされたライブ盤はありません。
あまりのカッコ良さに悶絶しました（笑）。

初期のラインナップ（I、IIからが多め）です。
重複する曲目があり、それが新鮮に楽しめるのはﾂｪｯﾍﾟﾘﾝのﾂｪｯﾍﾟﾘﾝたる
魅力の由縁であると思います。彼らは曲を表現するのではなく、その場

の情熱を表現するからです。演奏する度に彼らの曲は形を変えて私達に
迫ります。

未だ高見に立つハードロックの英雄ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞの音に、今こうしてこんな形で
出会えた私は幸せであると思います。正規のディスコグラフィーに組み
込まれるべきﾚｯﾄﾞﾂｪｯﾍﾟﾘﾝの傑作ライブ盤。買いましょう！聴きましょう！
