60年代の超1級アトランティック・ソウルスター達が繰り広げる絶品のアルバム。雪おも溶かす熱いナンバーから甘く切ないバラッドまで捨て曲なし。Willam Bellのeveryday will be like a holidayは、洋楽の中でもかなり好きな曲なのですがなんとスイート・インプレッションズに変わっていいます。残念。King Curtisのとろける様なサックスの音色。いわずと知れたビック・オー、ソロモン・バーク、ジョー・テックス、クレアレンス・カーター等、・・・普通にソウルナンバーとしてでも聴けます。後、A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spectorが有ればクリスマスはOKでしょう。

子どもの頃、クリスマスが近づくと感じるニオイがあった。

短くなっていく日が、いつもの帰り道を暗くしていくとき、通りのあちらこちらにイルミネーションが灯され、石油ストーブの灯油のニオイやお菓子屋さんの前の甘いニオイなんかがふわふわと漂っている中、十把一絡げのクリスマスソングに混じってオーティスのホワイトクリスマスを聴いた。

なんだか金色になってしまった街の空からチラチラと雪が降り出して、僕は足を止めてその唄に聞き入っていた。

あの休日のような毎日は戻らない。僕はオトナになってしまった。でも、いつだってクリスマスになればあのオーティスの唄に出会える。特別な人と特別な気持ちで聴きたい一枚。
