BOOKER T & THE MG'Sの６２年に発売になったデビューアルバム　このバンドはもともとスタックスレーベルの専属バックバンドでオーティス・レディングを始め多くのアーティストのバックでレコーディングに参加（忌野　清志朗のレコーディングにも参加したことがある）　黒人2人、白人2人の異色の混成バンドで作り出すリズム、グルーブはまだ人種差別の激しかったアメリカ南部でも物珍しかった事だろう。　肝心のサウンドの方はタイトル曲で決まりでしょう、何か不気味と言うか、怪しいと言うか、エロっぽいサウンドでベンチャーズとは異なるダークなインストナンバーを聴かせてくれます。　もちろんこのサウンドはイギリスのMODSバンドたちもお気に入りでレパートリーに一曲はインストナンバーを取り入れる事がCOOLとされていてSMALL　FACESのGROW　YOUR　OWN、THE　QUICKのBERT'S　APPLE　CRUMBLEにその影響が見える、インストナンバーはないけどアニマルズもMG'Sの影響が濃く現れていると思います

サザンソウルの伝説的スターであり、キングであった、今は亡きオーティス・

レディングのバックバンドを勤めた彼らのサウンドは、クールで洗練されています。グリーンオニオンを一度聞けばオルガン、ギター、ドラム、ベースの一流プレーヤーが寸分の狂いも無く演奏している姿が想像でき、身震いするほどきまっていて、かっこいいです。映画「アメリカン・グラフィティ」の最後の

チキンレースの場面にアルバム名にもなっているグリーンオニオンが採用されています。
