初めて彼女の曲に触れたのは本作品にクレジットされている「Sweet love」でした。実は彼女のようなけだるいボーカルは余り好きではないんですが、妙に曲にマッチしていて印象に残ったためこの作品を手にしました。最初はバッキングプレーヤーに渋いプレイがあるのかと期待していたこともありますが、聞きこむほどに、彼女の実力あるボーカルに引き込まれていき、どんなタイプのナンバーでもそつなくこなせるオールラウンドプレーヤーであるなと気付いた次第です。特に疲れている時に聴く彼女の歌声はスローナンバーでもアップテンポナンバーでも癒されていくような気がして安心感が沸いてきます。私は本作品しか彼女のアルバムを持っていませんが、心落ち着かせてくれるナンバーが揃っている作品だと思いますので毎日忙しくしている方に聞いて頂きたい！自分を見つめ直せるかも。

　アニタ・ベイカーは1980年代後半，ジャケットそのまま艶気たっぷりの気怠いヴォーカルで一世を風靡した女性ヴォーカリスト。一聴彼のものと分かる名匠マイケル・パウエルの見事なサウンド・プロダクションと，本人の周到な作曲センスを利し，緻密に作り込まれたアルバムは，透徹した独自のカラーを誇りました。

　彼女は必ずアルバムに一つ，第三者の作品を入れるんですが，その曲＝このアルバムで言えば「ノー・ワン・イン・ザ・ワールド」と，それ以外の曲の出来が何と違うことでしょう。却って他人の出来の悪いプロデュースが一曲入ることで，アニタの辿り着いた高みはマイケル・パウエルとの協調によってのみ生まれたコラボレーションだったのだと如実に思い知らされる気がするんですが如何でしょう!か。

　本アルバムは1986年のもので，彼女が一躍メジャーでの評価を確立した作品。基本的に純ジャズ畑の人間は少ないながら，ポウリーニョ・ダ・コスタやジミー・ハスリップ（イエロージャケッツのベース弾きです），グレグ・フィリンゲインズら，後の成功作でもお馴染みの顔触れで固められ，『ギヴィング・ユー・ザ・ベスト』，『コンポジションズ』に聴ける路線は確立済み。下手なジャズ盤よりは，余程ジャズの薫りがします。ジャズ周辺の音楽も，出来が良ければ拘りなく聴きますと言う方には，ぜひ聴いて貰いたい人の一人です。ちなみにマイケル・パウエル自身も２曲でクラシック・ギターを弾いてます。

気だるい雰囲気の歌声には、心を癒される何かがあります。
ＣＤは持っていたのですが、ハワイへ海外旅行に行ったとき、飛行機の中で「スィート・ラブ」を聴いた時にはとても心地よかった。
意外な場所で思いもかけない体験はいいものです。
所有する空しさも同時に感じました。

コンテンポラリーメロウＲ＆Ｂの金字塔といっても過言ではない。とにかくいい曲だらけ。5曲目は確かＤＪ　ＨＡＳＥＢＥがサンプリングしているはず。
