Jackson Browne's second album defined the idea of the Southern California singer-songwriter--one part country, one part folk, eight parts introspection. It would be disgustingly maudlin except for the fact that Browne has some powerful songs, like the title track and "Lady of the Well." But he can up the volume a little, turning out a version of his own "Take It Easy" that outdoes the Eagles and cranking up the bar-band boogie on "Redneck Friend." For the most part, though, it's late nights in the dark and candlelight, and Jackson Browne did it well. --Chris Nickson

彼のアルバムの中で、その感性のみずみずしさを一番感じる作品です。

イーグルスとは別アレンジの「テイク・イット・イージー」からメドレーで歌われる「泉の聖母」、グレッグ・オールマンのバージョンにインスパイアされた「青春の日々」（デビッド・リンドレイのスライドがすごい！）までのLPのA面はどの曲も名曲。さらには「僕の歌を聞かせておくれ」から、ラス・カンケルのドラムでつながれるタイトル曲の「フォー・エブリマン」の詩と曲、演奏が一体になった完成度は、彼の最高傑作と呼ぶにふさわしい内容です。’８０年代にはかなり政治色の強いアーティストになってしまいましたが、彼が’７０年代に残したアルバムはどれも傑作です。

７３年の歌が時代と共にあったことが感じられる作品。
（リアルタイムじゃないのでわからないですけど）
１枚目の感受性豊かなサウンド、歌にリンドレーのギターが
流麗に絡み合い、より感情豊かな作品となっています。
特にヒット曲はないですが、イーグルスで有名な
Take it easy のはじけない版他どこか、自分の世界を

築きあげようとした繊細な曲たちが揃っています。
そして次作のＬａｔｅ　Ｆｏｒ　ｔｈｅ　Ｓｋｙへと
つながっていきます。

これほど魂を揺さぶるアルバムはない。ジャケットのくすんだセピアの中に静かに佇むジャクソン。若い頃東横線のボロアパートで、何回針を落としてジャクソンの歌とバックの繊細な音に耳を傾けたことだろう?この叙情性は、一体何だというのか?
