Sting's second and most conceptually dense solo album moved on from jazz to ideas picked up from Latin music. Even when he's not using Latin music's tricky polyrhythms, the melodies of the ballad "Be Still My Beating Heart" and the hit dance single "We'll Be Together" suggest he'd been listening to lots of salsa. If you can sting, you can cross-pollinate, too, and there are some other subtle hybrids here, notably the Gil Evans Orchestra's gliding arrangement of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" and the reggae-in-a-Cole Porter suit of "Englishman in New York." Of course, the former schoolteacher has some lyrical messages to deliver and the three songs that originally made up the second side of a double LP are a bitter meditation on Latin American politics and history. --Douglas Wolk

ポリスのEvery Breadth You Take等は知っているけど、余り知らない方。
レオンなどの映画の主題歌をうたっている人ぐらいしかスティングを知らない方。このアルバムを是非きいて下さい。難解な歌詞に、天才的な音に関する感性を感じさせる曲を合致させるスティングの味が味わえます。
ポリス時代は好きだったけど、最近のスティングは聞かないという方。

アンディー・サマーズとの競演がラザラス・ハートで聞けます。スティングもまだ若いです（笑。
ポリス時代に蓄えた、スティングが本当にやりたかった音楽が存分に発揮された珠玉のアルバムだと思います。

スティングの全キャリア中で、ポリス解散後のソロ第一作Blue Turlteからライブをはさんで第3作となる本作までが彼の人気・創作力ともに全盛期だったと思います、特に本ＣＤと同時期に発表されたスペイン語盤ミニ・アルバムはキャリアの頂点に位置する大傑作と思います、本ＣＤは収録された12曲すべてが名曲であり、生涯愛聴するであろう素晴らしい内容です、ジミ・ヘンドリックスのLittle Wingがスティングだけに可能であるとおもえるアレンジで演奏されていることも印象的です、その後の彼の活動のすべては、このアルバムのバリエイションといったら言い過ぎでしょうか、
始めてスティングの購入を考えている方には、キャリアを概観するにはベスト盤を、もっとも充実したアルバムを希望するなら本ＣＤもしくは少し地味ですがSoul Cageがお勧めです、

　Dire Straitsの『BROTHERS IN ARMS』に参加したスティングは、プロデューサーのニール・ドルフスマンの仕事ぶりに感心し、『THE DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES』に次ぐソロ・アルバムである今作に起用しました。そして同じようにフル・デジタル・レコーディングをしました。前作に比べると内向的な雰囲気が漂うのは、母親の死というものが影響しているのでしょう。アルバムタイトルの『...NOTHING LIKE THE SUN』というフレーズは、“Sister Moon”の中で唄われます。
　ゲスト陣も豪華で、エリック・クラプトンがジミ・ヘンドリックスの“Little Wing”でソロを聴かせているのをはじめ、マーク・ノップラー、アンディ・サマーズとの共演、そしてギル・エヴァンスとの共演がハイライトでしょうが、ここではスティングのヴォーカルとブランフォード・マルサリスのヴォーカルのようなサックスとの絡みを堪能してください。この二人のアーティストのデュオは、完全にポリスという亡霊を追い払ってしまったようです。（前作では、多少なりともちらついた）
