｢愛のコリーダ｣というタイトルで引いてしまいそうですが、オリジナルのタイトルは"The Dude"です。一曲目が"AI NO CORRIDA"ですので、そうなってしまったのでしょう。大島渚に捧げられた曲としてよく紹介されていますが、当時のインタビューによれば、クインシー自身にはそんな意識はなかったようです。単に語感がよかったから。というのが正解のようです。
当アルバムは80年代アメリカン･ポップ･ミュージックの集大成って感じがします。当時はブラック･コンテンポラリー･ミュージックが全盛でした。ディスコ･ミュージックもそのなかのひとつです。その中心にいたのがクインシーです。マイケル･ジャクソンの育ての親でもあります。
内容については書き始めたらきりがなくなりそうです。
先ず、懐かしのロッド･テンパートン節が満喫できます。曲だけではなくボーカル･アレンジ、リズム･アレンジも一緒にどうぞ。次に、参加メンバーが豪華です。スティービー･ワンダー、ハービー･ハンコック、チャカ･カーン、スティーブ･ルカサー、パティー･オースティン、アーニー･ワッツ、トゥーツ･シールマンス、当時新人だったジェームス･イングラム、あのマイケル･ジャクソン等々･･･
そして、これだけの豪華なメンバーをコーディネートできるのは、クインシーぐらいでしょう。ボスと呼ばれる所以です。しかも、それをアレンジで曲の中に無駄なく織込んでしまうのですから。これだけゴージャスなアレンジができる人はあまりいません。ハンコックのきらめくようなソロを隠し味にしてしまうなんてもったいないことを平気でやっています。
子ネタ的には、ジェリー･ヘイのホーン･アレンジはやっぱりカッコいいです。また、グレッグ･フィリゲインズのプレイが聴けるのも嬉しいところです。

友人に勧められて、本CDを購入しました。
「愛のコリーダ」は耳慣れているものなので、久しぶりに聴いても
やっぱり最高ですが、その他の作品も聴けば聴くほど心に響いて
くるものばかり・・・
必聴です！！欲をいえば、歌詞カードがほしかったなあ・・・

まず参加ミュージシャンが凄い、このアルバム。
JAZZ,SOUL界の大御所クインシー・ジョーンズが１９８１年に放った、超名盤。
ジャケット、曲、全てが、そこら辺の歌手とは比べ物にならないほど、
洗練されており、３０代後半から４０代の方の間では知らない人外無いほど。

思わず身体が踊り出す、ダンサブルな「Ai No Corrida(愛のコリーダ)」
ジェームス・イングラムの歌う美しいバラード「Just Once」など、
収録曲数は９曲と少な目ですが、物足りなさなど微塵も感じさせないところが凄い!!(凄すぎるぞクインシーマジック!!)

８０年代の名盤の中でも１０指に入るであろうこのアルバム。
この良さは聴いてみないと分からないので聴いてください!!
(このCDは国内盤「愛のコリーダ」のUS盤です。)

オススメ曲「Ai No Corrida(愛のコリーダ)」「Just Once」「Betcha' Wouldn't Hurt Me」
