 「イパネマの娘」「コルコヴァード」「ワン・ノート・サンバ」など、アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンは実に多くのボサノヴァの名曲を書いている。まさにジョビンこそミスター・ボサノヴァといっていい人物だ。ジョビンのリーダー作は多いが、なかでも1967年に録音した本作はイージーリスニング調のソフトな感触のインストゥルメンタル作品ということで人気がある。
   ボサノヴァというと一般には素朴な歌声をイメージするかもしれないけれど、ここではヴォーカル曲は1曲(<8>)だけで、あとはクラウス・オガーマン編曲指揮のストリングス入りオーケストラとの共演による心地良いインストゥルメンタル。クリード・テイラーがプロデュースしたCTI/A&M作品ということで、ネイティヴなボサノヴァとはやや趣が違うが、アメリカナイズされたその都会的な雰囲気がジョビンのメロディにフィットしていて、とても気持よく聴ける。アービー・グリーン、ジミー・クリーヴランド、ロン・カーターなど有名ジャズメンも多数参加しているが、あくまでも主役はジョビン。（市川正二）

流していてこんなに気にならない音楽は初めて。
仕事中も思案中も私の邪魔をせず、きれいな空気のように傍にいてくれます。
ワガママや自己顕示欲のない音というのかな。
変なたとえですが、音でできた空気清浄機（とかお部屋の消臭剤）のようなカンジです。
買ってよかったと‥‥いう満足が日増しに募ります。

　かつてＣＴＩのイージーリスニング調の一連のアルバムといえば、生真面目なジャズファンからは〈喫茶店のＢＧＭ〉などと軽蔑されていた記憶がある。でも、いまあらためて聴きなおすと、理屈抜きに快適なサウンドを追求して、すばらしい成果を挙げた作品が少なくないことに気づきます。

　トム・ジョビンの《WAVE（波）》は、その最たるものだろう。部屋で、車のなかで、空き時間に流しっぱなしにしておいて気分がやすらぐ名盤。ボサノバの楽曲の魅力を知りつくしたクラウス・オガーマン編曲指揮のストリングスのセンスの良さには感服するほかない。参加ミュージシャンの面々も豪華。

　とにかく、名曲揃い。全１０曲、捨て曲なし。充実している。欲をいえば、８曲目の〈Lamento〉だけヴォーカル曲になっているけれど、本作については、全曲インストゥルメンタルに統一してもらいたかったような気がするなあ。別にジョビンのヴォーカルが嫌いなわけじゃないけれど。

　ところで、ジャケットはまったくおなじキリンの写真なのに、輸入盤はグリーン、国内盤はオレンジ色をしているのはなぜだろう。私は輸入盤のほうを愛聴しています。これはおすすめ。

5.0 out of 5 stars ＣＴＩがアントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンの良さを上手く引き出した, 2006/5/29
　ジャズのミュージシャンの中にはＣＴｉレーベルで駄作を作ってしまう例も少なくないが、この取り合わせなら間違いない。ＣＴｉの醸し出す「ジャズのようでジャズでない雰囲気」が彼の良さを最大限に引き出した。

　個人的には、ストリングスの入ったボサノバは好きではないのが、本作は例外である。是非とも夏の暑い夜に聴いてほしい。恐らく、知らないうちにそよ風が吹いてくるのを感じるであろう。

　全曲ともにレベルは高いが、特に気に入ったのが1曲目の「波」。なんとも彼らしい下手（失礼）なシングルトーンのピアノがリラックスした雰囲気を出している。これに包み込むような管楽器が入って最高である。「波」とは言い得て妙だ。
　他には9曲目の「アンティグァ」が良かった。フルートとキーボード（これがハープシコードという楽器か？）、加えてホーンセクションのやり取りが幻想的で、聴く者を心地良い不安へといざなう。

　アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンは数々の名曲を作り出しているが、アルバムとしての仕上がりで考えると、本作は最高傑作の１つに数え上げられるだろう。
