　ジェフポーカロの急死によりバンド自体の存続が危ぶまれていたが、ルカサーが以前サンタナ、ジェフベックとの共演のためソロで来日した際、バックでドラムを叩いていた人、サイモンフィリップス！の加入により復活をはたした。キングダム~リリース後のライブでの充実ぶりを見事にTOTOのアルバムでも発揮している。
　ジェフの死により大きな穴が開いてしまったようで、アップテンポな明るい曲はなくバンドメンバーの人格を消し去ったかの様な、アノ人の影を見ながらプレイしているような感じを受ける。曲そのもののクオリティは高いが音楽を楽しむまでは時間がもう少しかかるよう。
　・・road goes on・・まだ終わりじゃないよ。

　J.Porcaroが急死して最初のアルバムがこれ。TOTOにとっても、世界の音楽シーンにも彼の死は痛恨の極みだったが、ドラムにS.Phillipsを迎えた本作は、皮肉にも前作“KINGDOM OF DESIRE”を上回るデキとなった。“GIFT OF FAITH”で始まるこの作品は、一枚を通してバランスもよく、変な力みがない。同じ“GIFT”つながりで言えば“GIFT WITH A GOLDEN GUN”で始まる3rd.アルバム“TURN BACK”に通じるラフな仕上がりながらも、熟練期に入った彼らの音楽性が素直に出ていると思う。なかなかＧＯＯＤな作品。

１９９６年リリースのサイモンフィリップス（Ｄｒ）を正式メンバーに迎えてのアルバム・・・サイモンがＴＯＴＯに加入するなんて、びっくりしました。確かにジェフポーカロの後任ともなれば、そんじょそこらのドラマーでは無理だもんなあ・・・ヴィニーカリウタあたりもよかったかも。初期のロック魂を思い出したようなアルバムで、スティーブルカサーのギターがとにかくかっこいいですね・・・サイモンの加入はプラスに機能しています。１１曲目ジャムセッション風超絶インストは、彼らの演奏技術を再認識させてくれます・・・凄いなあ！！ＴＯＴＯはバラードバンドではないと宣言しているようなロックしたアルバムです。
