この作品は、スパイク・リー監督のJAZZMAN達を取り巻くさまざまな出来事をえがいた映画MO BETTER BLUESのO.S.Tです。主演はデンゼル・ワシントン。最近、HIP HOPシーンの成長とともんびBLACK MOVIEがでてきていますが、確かに同監督の映画でLAST GAME、DO THE RIGHT THINGなどはPUBLIC ENERMYなどHIP HOPのアーティストがてがけていたりしますが、しかしこのO.S.Tは９５％JAZZ、５％HIPHOPです。＃1 HARLEM BLUESは特に女性にもおすすめですね、歌詞でも男の心は分からないハーレムの男なら尚更そう分かろうとするだけ無駄~とCYNDA WILLIAMSが映画の舞台HARLEMをJAZZMAN達を歌う名曲、なんと日本人アーティストUAもカバーしている。＃4 AGAIN NEVERかなり胸を切なくさせられる、まさに底なしの哀愁、独りの夜を感じられる一曲です。＃5　MO　BETTER BLUESも映画のタイトル曲でもあり、耳にするとついほっとさせる、耳にした人を暖める体温を持っている一曲。＃６POP TOP40もポエトリーリーディング感がすごくいいです。HOPというのは#8JAZZ THING/GANG STARの曲でもちろんタイトル通りJAZZ flavor満載のトラックにGURUのRAP!!PREMIERのSCRACHがさえる一曲。「息子が聞いてるHIPHOPはちょっと…。」とかって言う全国のJAZZ親父さん達にも聞いて欲しい一曲。「もし全然聞けるじゃない！！」ってお父さんはGURUのJAZZMATAZってアルバムをチェック！！

　1990年のスパイク・リー監督・製作・脚本によるジャズ・トランペッターを描いた映画のサントラです。音楽はジャズ中心ですが、サントラらしくさまざまな雰囲気の曲が混ざってます。演奏はStingのバンドに参加したことがあるためロック・ファンにまで名を知られているブランフォード・マルサリスのバンドにテレンス・ブランチャードまでが参加するという豪華な布陣で、当時話題になったものでした。
　ジャズのことはイマイチよく分かりませんが、シンプルに美しいテーマを繰り返すだけの"Mo' Better Blues"やスタンダードやバカラックなど次々といろんなメロディが出てくる"Pop Top 40"など、ジャズ的でない演奏も十分楽しいですね。
　"Do The Right Thing"のポスターの上にトランペットを持ったデンゼル・ワシントンのポスターが張ってある、何故か手前でスパイク・リーが「お控えなすって」のポーズをとっているというジャケットもワリと好きでした。

必聴のHarlem Bluesをはじめ、映画を見ていない人でも充分楽しめるクオリティです。Harlem Bluesは歌詞載せて欲しかったが。。
