POPS史上に残る名曲「男が女を愛する時」を　幾多のアーティストがカバーしてきました。
しかし何故かみんな同じアプローチで録音しています。
音楽は自由でなければならない。
違うアプローチで大胆なアレンジを施し　アート・ガーファンクルはこの曲に挑んでいます。
このアレンジに顔をしかめる人もいるやもしれませんが、こうゆう風にして楽曲は永遠の命を持つんだとボクは思います。
そしてこのベストアルバムの全12曲の中に潜む、静かだけれど深い情感を聴くことからアート・ガーファンクルを感じて欲しいのです。
如何でしょうか？
「青春の旅路」が入っていないから　星、四つですけどネ。

パーシー・スレッジで有名な1曲目や、ギャラガー＆ライルが提供した2曲目また、ティモシーB・シュミットが
歌った8曲目など他のアーティストの曲をガーファンクル流にほのぼの歌いあげています。
静かな夜に聴いて、癒されてみては如何ですか？一日の疲れが取れますよ。

アートさんのオリジナルアルバムはやはりちょっと物足りないなあと感じてしまう人のためのベスト。「ＬＡより９９マイル」のアルバートハモンドとハルデビッドの浮遊感のある曲をこれまた浮遊の歌で唄っていて良いし、歌詞の中にもある、フロントガラスが見えなくなる位の雨が打ちつけてくるし(でも車の中だから不思議な静けさもある、ちょうどヴィンセントギャロの映画「ブラウンバニー」にそういうふうな場面があった)アメリカのハイウェイ・・・美しい佳曲。続いて僕がアルバム中最も夢中になった曲「セカンドアヴェニュー」ティムムーアの作品でそのオリジナルも買って聞きましたが、ちょっとそっけないかなという印象、それに比べ本作アートさんは、コンパクトにまとめしかもおさえる所はきっちりおさえて素晴らしい仕上がり、この歌も歌詞中の階段の踊り場がありありと目の前に浮かんでくる。こういう歌ってもうなくなっちゃたんですかね？雨が強くそして優しく打つ窓や屋根、そういう音が聞こえ僕もこんな風な恋をどこかでしたんじゃないかと思わせられる。後は、ジェイムステイラー、ポールサイモンとの三人で仲良く唄ったワンダフルワールド、ポールサイモンってソロの時は気にならないけどこうやって聞くとカサカサしてんなあ(声が)と思ってしまう。やっぱりジェイムス！真似して一緒に歌いたくなるような素晴らしい歌唱。
