   1970年代や80年代に成功した他のバンドと同じく、ジャーニーは、ボーカルのスティーヴ・ペリーのハイトーン・ボイスとギターのニール・ショーンのメロディアスなソロというふたつの武器をもとにサウンドを築いた。また分厚いコーラスを用いて、激しいサウンドを美しく飾り立てた。本作は、「Anyway You Want It」「Don't Stop Believin」といった印象的なトラックによって、ジャーニーがポップ・ソングの作り方を心得ていたことを教えてくれる。「Wheel in the Sky」はジャーニーのなかでも芸術性の高いトラックのひとつだし、「Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'」は4バースのブルース・パターンを真正面から取り入れ、ペリーのボーカルも絶好調だ。もちろん当然のごとく、「Faithfully」「Open Arms」「Send Her My Love」といった大成功をもたらした力強いバラードも本作では耳にできる。この他にも、成功をさらに不動のものにした思いがけない一面を見せたトラックもあり、なかでも「Anyway You Want It」を始めとする何曲かでは踊ることさえできる。（Steve Gdula, Amazon.com）

Like other successful bands of the 1970s and 1980s, Journey's sound was built on the double threat of singer Steve Perry's upper-register vocals and guitarist Neal Schon's melodic solos. The band also used rich harmonies to embellish their hard edge. Greatest Hits shows that Journey knew how to craft a pop song with memorable tunes like "Anyway You Want It" and "Don't Stop Believin'." "Wheel in the Sky" was one of the band's more arty singles, while "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" relied on a straight four-bar blues pattern, with Perry's vocals at their best. The band's power ballads gave them their biggest success, and are rightfully represented here: "Faithfully," "Open Arms," and "Send Her My Love." Another unlikely aspect further secured the band's success--you could actually dance to some of their stuff, especially "Anyway You Want It." --Steve Gdula

星の数ほどいるロックバンドのなかには、ベスト盤だけ押さえておけば十分だなんてバンドが実に多い。ではジャーニーは? ベスト盤だけでは不十分だな。なぜなら楽曲のクオリティが極めて高いものが実に多いからだ。たった15曲でジャーニーを語り尽くすことなどできません。あくまでもこのアルバムは入門編という位置付けかなぁ。でも全アルバムを持っている人でも、アスクザロンリー一曲のために買うのも有りかな。そのくらいの価値はあるいい曲ですよ!でもグレーテストヒッツを名乗るなら時の彼方へ(OF A LIFETIME)や、ペイシェントリー、トゥーレイト、僕のそばに・・・、ストーンインラヴ、スティルゼイライド、パーティーズオーバー、おっとっと切りがないですね。やっぱり15曲じゃ足りないよ!もしこのCDを聴いてジャーニーが気に入ったなら、スティーヴペリー参加後の全アルバムを揃えることをお薦めします。買って損したなんてのは一枚もないはずですよ! (時の彼方へはファースト収録の曲です。ペリーはまだ参加していません)

「海猿」に使われたopen armsが注目されていますが、このアルバムはなんと言ってもfaithfullyだと断言します。
Ｊ・ケインのキーボードにＳ・ペリーの声が乗れば、そこにジャーニーのバラードが生まれます。ドライブに最高のアルバムがここにあります。

ソウルフルでいて、ハスキーな声で、スウィートなヴォイス、この三つの要素を兼ね備えたヴォーカリストが、スティーヴ・ペリーである。なかなかスティーヴ・ペリーみたいにこれだけの重厚な声質を出せる人は、滅多にいてまへんで~！！僕の一番大好きな男性ロック・ヴォーカリストです！！このアルバムで大好きな曲は「Don't Stop Believin'」「Open Arms」「Separate Ways」「Send Her My Love」「Any Way You Want It」「Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'」などがめっちゃ気に入っています！！スティーヴ以外で大好きなヴォーカリストは、FREE、BAD COMPANYに在籍していたポール・ロジャースで、この人も魂をめっちゃ込めて歌いはるので、ロック音楽を聴く人を別世界に誘ってくれるので、聴いていて大変心地良くなれる歌い手ですので、スティーヴ・ペリーと同様に大好きなロック・ヴォーカリストです。ハード・ロックやヘヴィメタばかりではなく、JOURNEY、TOTO、SIMON&GARFUNKEL、CHICAGO、SURVIVOR、FOREIGNER、DAVID BOWIE、STING、HALL&OATES、CARPENTERSなどを聴き、ロック音楽の幅を広げよう！!スティーヴ・ペリーは、ジャーニーでも、ソロでもどちらでもめっちゃカッコイイで~！！！！！
