   元祖オルタナ系バンドといわれるチープ・トリックの88年リリースの11作目。本作は、7年ぶりにオリジナル・メンバーがそろってレコーディングされた。
   この作品を発表するまでの何年か、ヒットに恵まれず地味なライヴ活動を強いられていた。しかし、雨が上がったかのように、タイトル・チューンのバラード<3>がスマッシュ・ヒットを記録。続いて、エルヴィス・プレスリーの56年の大ヒット曲をカバーした<6>が、彼らにとって初の全米No.1に輝くなど、強く復活をアピールすることになったのである。（春野丸緒）

8年ぶりにベースのトムが復活。通算これでもう12作目だって。1年半ぶりの新作。エルビスの「冷たくしないで」のカヴァーも妙にクールで楽しいし,全体にかなりの意欲がみなぎっている。ハードでポップな持ち味,そうはほころびてない。抜けよくて快作。

80sになって鳴かず飛ばずだった彼らが久しぶりの大舞台に帰って来ただけでも感涙ものです。
"永遠の愛の炎"とは、チョッと恥ずかしいタイトルですが、曲そのものは良く出来たロッカバラードです。
ベイシティローラーズ然り、Japan然り、日本での人気が海外に飛び火したバンドとしても有名な彼らですが、70sの彼らに見られたロックンロール的な音から入るもよし、本作のような少し洗練されたロックから入るもよし。彼らのよさには時代は関係ない、ということですね。

エアロがBフェアバーンらの手により復活した頃、「トム復帰」のニュースが流れた。かみさんにそそのかされて組んだバンドで来日し、音楽番組で彼女の隣でニコニコしている彼をを見てあまりいい印象を持たなかった僕は興味を持たなかった。しかしその後発表された本作は全米１８位を獲得。タイトル曲はチープ初の一位。「DON'T〜」は４位。これはプレスリーのカバーとして初のTOP１０入りだ。この大ヒットのお陰で１０年ぶりの武道館が実現。僕の念願も叶った。「WELL〜 JUST GOT BACK〜」。しかしこれは僕が知っているチープではない。オーバープロデュースされた大人のロックである。特にリックのギター。前作とは別人だ。ジョルジオ・モロダーのサントラみたいだ。実際リッチー・ズィトーはそっち系統の人で、直前にはハートを復活させている。と、当時は納得いかなかったものだが、やはりツボを押さえた音作りは流石で、彼らの意外な面を聴けてこれはこれで貴重だと思う。

７０年代後期に大ヒットを飛ばし、長い間低迷していた。しかしながら3曲目の「永遠の愛の炎」の大ヒットのおかげで大復活。（当時、ロックバンドのバラードが大流行。）全体的にバランスも良く捨て曲もないだろう。若干おとなしくなった印象はいなめないが・・・第二期の彼らの黄金期の代表作。
