洋楽初心者にもお勧めできる、TOTOの7th.アルバム。1st.や4th.のようにジャケットがシンプルな剣のデザインで、この三つのアルバムが傑作だと個人的には思う。

バンド結成10周年ということを意識してか、前２作から、グラミー賞を獲得した『TOTO IV（聖なる剣）』のサウンドに近いものになった。

某ＣＭで使われて日本でもヒットした1を初めとして、代表曲4、凝ったサウンドの5、故ジェフ・ポーカロのドラムが素晴しい7、ノリのよい8(もっとロック色が強くてもいい気もするが）、先日公式ホームページでライブでやって欲しい曲の１位に選ばれた11など、非の打ちどころのない出来になっている。

前作から参加した３代目ボーカリスト・ジョセフの高音ボーカルも前作より冴えており、この編成のままうまく行って欲しかったのだが、ジョセフはこの後脱退することになったのが非常に残念。

TOTOの７枚目のアルバムにして完成度の一番高いもの。ジョセフのボーカルは歴代で一番と思われるしまだジェフポカーロが在籍でスティーブルカサーをうまく抑え個々の完成度を高めている。９０年代に入りルークが一人で飛ばしサウンドがだいぶ変化してしまったことからこれが元来ＴＯＴＯ最後のアルバムといえよう。曲としては＜１１＞がこれぞＴＯＴＯという感じでしょう。

　“ＴＯＴＯIV”の後、２作を挟んで発表されたのがこれ。恐らくは、全作品を通じて“ＴＯＴＯIV”に最も近い作品だろうが、これは意識して創り上げられた、全くのバッタもの。“ROSANNA”同様、一曲目に“PAMALA”が配されていることからもハッキリと覗える。しかしながら、アルバムの完成度は抜群であり、一作品として星５つをあげたい。おススメはラストの“HOME OF THE BRAVE”。
