当時、他のジャクソンズのメンバー兄弟にとって気の毒だったのは、まさにその２年前からスリラーでバカ売れしていたマイケル・ジャクソンが在籍していたことだったと思います。
本来ジャクソン５として活動していて、７０年代後半からジャクソンズに改名、５人組で「ヴィクトリー」「トライアンフ」という、質の高い力作を出して来たのに、マイケルがクインシー・ジョーンズと組んで作ったソロ「オフ・ザ・ウォール」や「スリラー」のおかげで「ジャクソンズ」＝「マイケル・ジャクソンとその兄弟のバンド」というくくりで意識されてしまったかもしれません。てか僕はそうでした。
バンドとしての作品を前面に出す意図なので、マイケルのメイン・ヴォーカルが入っている曲は「Torture」「Be Not Always」「State of Shock（D/w:ミック・ジャガー）」のみです。マイケル追従だったファンはここでガッカリしてしまうかもしれません。
でも発売から２０年経った今なら聴けますよ。ジャッキーやジャーメインなど、他のメンバーも頑張っているし、やっぱり「売れる」「Popな」質はキープしてますし、ここらの他メンバーの曲の中に、やはりマイケルの動的な「State of Shock」であり静的な「Be Not Always」が際立って来ることも再発見できると思います。

６人揃ってのアルバムはこの一枚ということで購入。でも発見が一杯の一枚です。
一人ひとりが各自の曲を歌っているところが結構楽しめるんじゃないかと思います。
（コーラスでもマイケルはすぐ聞き分けられておもしろい）
聞き覚えのある曲といえば、Torture ですが、マイケルのBe Not Alwaysは初めて聞きました。スローな曲のマイケルの声と歌い方が好きな私には、たまらない１曲です。他のアルバムには入ってないみたいだし、なによりマイケル自信の作品ですので。
あと、マーロンのBodyは、聞いてびっくり！この曲、知ってる！ということと兄弟の中で一番マイケルと似た声と歌い方ですねー。アルバムを持っている方そう思いませんか？
洗練された近年のアルバムにはない味わいがあると思います。

マイケル・ジャクソンがスリラーで世界最高売り上げを記録した82年には、有名なモータウン25周年コンサートで6人編成でジャクソンズは再結成を遂げた。しかし、マイケルのビリー・ジーンのステージによるムーンウォークによって、視線はマイケルに集中。ジャクソンズを印象付けるとすれば、このアルバムでようやく新たなスポットライトを当てられることになる。

これがリリースされたのはスリラーから2年後の84年。アルバムは全米で200万枚を超え、このアルバムを引っさげてのツアーは900億円のマネーが動いたという、世界最大規模のものだった。
アルバムの完成度も非常に高いのと、特筆すべきはジャクソン兄弟のここがリードボーカルないしプロデュースを行っているということ。マイケル、ランディ、ジャッキー、マーロンに至っては単独での製作曲が収められている。
かつてのリードボーカルのマイケルは僅か三曲でのリードとなり、他の曲ではコーラスや作曲の徹している。本来ならばクイーンのフレッディ・マーキュリーとデュエットを済ませたはずの曲は、諸事情によりローリングストーンズのミック・ジャガーとのデュエットで取り直されている。
隠れた名曲は、ランディが完全に単独プロデュースしたONE MORE CHANCE。後に妹のジャネットがIFのカップリングでカバーした名曲で、原曲のままでも充分素晴らしい出来。その後にベストアルバムには未収録なので、デジタルリマスタリング盤での復活を願うばかり。
ちなみに、ジャクソンズの兄弟総出となった6人編成は後にも先にもこのアルバムしか存在していない。
