ディープパープル解散後、ファンクなソロアルバムを発表、しかしその後全くシーンに姿を見せず死亡説まで流れたグレン・ヒューズ。ゲスト参加、日本限定アルバム、ライブ活動を経て、現在ではコンスタントな活動をしているが、もしこのアルバムが認知されていればこうした紆余曲折はなかったと思われる。パット・トラバーズ・バンドでセカンドギタリストをつとめていたパット・スロールを相棒たこのユニットの最初で最後のアルバムは、ハードかつポップで、ファンキー、とても素晴らしい作品になっている。オリジナルの発売当時−おそらく81年−にはこの種のアプローチは斬新で、その後１０年、同じようなアプローチが続々と世に出たことを考えると早すぎた作品といえる。しかし今でも強烈な個性を放っているアルバムである。また後にQuiet Riotでメジャーシーンに登場するドラマー、フランキー・バナリが数曲担当しており、これが彼のメジャーデビュー作ともなっている。

グレン・ヒューズ（トラピーズ〜Ｄパープル）とパット・スロール（オートマチック・マン〜Ｐトラバーズ・バンド）がタッグを組んだ８０年代ロックの隠れた名盤。商業的には成功しなかったが、２５年経った今聴いても十分に新鮮で、その先進性を当時のマーケットが理解できなかったと考えるべきだろう。フランジャーやディレイを効果的に使ったパットの唸るようなリズムギターは、Ｐトラバーズバンドのライブアルバム等でも聴くことができるが、本作では歌心のあるリードプレイも披露している。一方のグレンも、透明感のある伸びのあるボーカルを聴かせ、パットのギターと絡むと、ハードロックというよりフュージョン的な雰囲気さえ感じられる。この時代の楽曲はグレンのソロライブでも聴くことができるが（バーニング・ジャパン・ライブなど)、どうも垢抜けないサウンドになっていて、パットとの相性がいかに良かったかを再認識させられるのである。最近はスタジオエンジニアとして有名になってしまったパットだが、是非ともグレンと新たなアルバムを作ってもらいたいものだ。

伝説的な作品だが、CD化されていることを知らないファンも多いのではなかろうか。ロック・ヴォーカリストとしてのGlenn Hughesを堪能するのに好適な作品であると同時に、欧米ポピュラー音楽が活発で華やかだったあの時代を語る上で外せないアルバムだと思う。全般にキャッチーでメロディアスながらハードでスピーディな疾走感溢れるハードロックに仕上がっており、Glenn Hughesが最高のヴォーカルを聴かせてくれる。なかでも9はPat ThrallのメタリックなギターとGlenn Hughesの天性の声とががっちり組み合わさった劇的な曲である。
