突然恋人に自殺されたらどうしますか？
アートは当時恋人だったローリー・バードに自殺されています。
それを知ってこの写真を見てください。言葉がありません。
「シザーズ・カット」を聞くとつらくなります。
最後の「愛している、ただそれだけ･･･」まで聞くと･･･。
ジャケットには「ローリー・バード」の写真。それは顔の唇まででカットしてあるもの。
そして内側には小さく、「バードへ　君に捧げる」と書いてあります。
「ウォーター・マーク」で幸せそうに笑っているアートの写真。
それを撮ったのもバードです。こんな事になるとは知らずに。
残念ながらＵＳＡ盤ではアートがぜひ入れたかった「ロマンス」が「ブライト・アイズ」に差し替えられています。
レコード会社側の要請だったそうですが。もう入手できない日本盤は
アートの希望通り「ロマンス」が入っています。
できれば日本盤を手に入れてください。（難しいでしょうけれど）
だから星４つ。日本盤なら星５つ。

かなり値下がりしているようだが、Artie の作品では一番のおすすめ!
彼の作品では、残念ながら超美しい声を殺してしまう多重録音が鼻に
つくものが多いが、この作品はそれほどでもない。やはりボーカルの
多重録音はあるが、それほど露骨ではなく自然。
限りなく優しく，悲しく，美しいアルバムである。

私の中学時代とS&Gの活動時期が重なっていた。その頃からA.ガーファンクルの天使の歌声に魅せられていた。本作は、ガーファンクルの恋人の自殺の後に製作されている。タイトル作などには、その影が落ちていて胸を打つが、全体として思ったよりも力強い出来になっているのは、驚くと共に感動した(無理をしていたのかもしれないが)。

生粋のニューヨーク子のガーファンクルが「心はいつもニューヨークにあるさ」と情感を込めて唄う「Heart in New York」。そして極めつけは「Hang on in」。この状況で「頑張りなよ、心を強く持って、愛には何時かは道が見つかるさ」と力強く唄う心境。勿論、普遍的な意味を持っているのだが、この場合、自分自身に向かって言い聞かせていると考える方が自然だろう。泣けてくる。ファンは勿論、そうでない方も必聴のアルバム。
