このアルバムの素晴らしさは多くの人が語っているので、私はこのアルバムの中でも異色な"Georgy Porgy"を話題に挙げたい。
TOTOの都会的センスとソウルフルなノリがうまく絡み合ったダンサブルな曲調はそれまでのロックバンドの曲にはなかったものだ。

私はアナログレコードしか持っていないが、実は"Georgy Porgy"には Cheryl Lynn が参加している。サビの"Georgy Porgy puddin' pie..."というところを Cheryl が歌っている。この部分だけ声質が変わるし、ソウルフルで、Steve Lukather にしては上手すぎるのだ。最初は気が付かなかった。アルバムのどこにも Cheryl Lynn のクレジットがなかったからだ。

しかし、彼女のアルバム"Got to Be Real: The Best of Cheryl Lynn"には、この曲の同じテイクが"Georgy Porgy - Toto featuring Cheryl Lynn [Disco Version]"として収録されているのだ。このことからしても当時からTOTOというバンドは幅広い音楽性を持っていたことがわかる。
しかし音質は確かに良いとは言えない。各楽器の音の分離が悪く、当時Lukather のソロパートのコピーを試みていた私は大いに苦労させられた。
リミックス・ヴァージョンのリリースを待ちたいものである。

記念すべきＴＯＴＯのデビュー作『宇宙の騎士』。
ＴＯＴＯというバンドは、ジャンル分けが非常に難しいバンドで、作品ごとに色を変えた音作りをしているように思えます。しかし、全作品に共通して言えるのは、高度なテクニックを駆使したハイクオリティな音楽であるということです。

インストゥルメンタル曲「子供の凱歌」で始まる本作では、ハード・ロック、ＡＯＲ、オーソドックスなポップなど、多彩なサウンドが聴けます。
特徴の異なる４人のリード・ボーカリストにも注目で、ギターのスティーブ・ルカサーが歌う「ジョージー・ポージー」は本作でもとくに人気の高い名曲です。ルカサーの穏やかでセクシーな歌声が魅力のＡＯＲな曲です。また、ヒット曲でもある本作のハイライト・ナンバー、「ホールド・ザ・ライン」もギター・リフとテクニカルなソロがカッコイイ曲です。

本作はＡＯＲの定番アルバムとされることが多いですが、耳当たりの良いサウンドと親しみやすいメロディのポップな曲が多いため、ロック・ファンはもちろんのこと、普段あまりロックを聴かない方にもおすすめできる作品です。

TOTOのデビュ-作品にして、この完成度　収録された曲は捨てる曲はない
流石　実力者が揃った人物ばかりの結集された凄いアルバム　昔はこの音で満足出来たが、オ-ディオが進化してる時代に、この音質では、折角の素晴らしい　演奏が台無しだ。レコ-ド会社の人　早く　デジタル　リマスタ-を希望する。星5の内容だが。如何せん　音質が悪すぎる。
