77年発表のアルバム。前作「スター誕生」の大成功を受けて、一段とロック／ポップ色を強めた作品です。大空を軽やかに舞うような素敵な「スーパーマン」で始まり、「噂を信じないで」や「キャビン・フィーバー」ではロックのリズムにのって溌剌とした魅力を振りまいています。「ニューヨークの想い」は作者のビリー・ジョエルがバーブラの歌唱を大変喜んで、自分のコンサートの時に流したとか。「アンサー・ミー」「私の子守唄」は「スター誕生」用に用意した曲ですが、映画では使われずこのアルバムでの披露となりました。「愛は我が胸に」がシングル･チャートで４位となるヒットを記録、アルバムも第３位を獲得しています。70年代後期ならではのバーブラをお楽しみいただけると思います。

この大エンターテイナーの77年の作品で、色々な独立系のアーチストの曲を積極的に取り上げている。例えばビリー・ジョエルやキム・カーンズなど。キムはバーブラにこの頃気に入られて、その後Make no mistake, he's mine（アルバムEmotionより）でもデュエットしている。

筆者のお気に入りはなんと言っても、New York state of mind、My heart belongs to me、Love comes frome the most unexpected placesの3曲なのだが、タイトル曲のSupermanも面白い歌詞の割には（「私は鳥でもなく、飛行機でもないから飛べないけど、あなたの愛があればスーパーマンになれるのよ」と言う内容）歌唱が抜群によく（当たり前だ）、本当に空を飛んでいるのではないかと思わせる、リラックスした心地よさがある。

この頃バーブラは、「スター誕生」の大成功で一段落し、かなり肩から力が抜けていた感じだった。筆者はこのアルバムを最初知り合いの家で聴いた（80年ごろ）のだが、伸びやかで自由で＜広がり＞があると感じた。
