タイトル作の「Break Away」が日本でも「愛の旅立ち」としてヒットした、ガーファンクル充実期の作品。「Break Away 〜」というサビは今でも懐かしい。

「I Believe」は愛に落ちた時の心理を、起伏に富んだサウンドで聴かせる佳曲。「My Little Town」は故郷の街を歌ったP.サイモンとのデュエット曲で、アルバム発表前から話題になった曲。「I Only Have Eyes for You」はスタンダードのカバー曲。ガーファンクルの澄んだボーカルが光る。「Same Old Tears on a New Background」は失恋時の心境を、豊かな曲想の中で歌い上げたもの。そして私の一番のお気に入りは「Rag Doll」。縫いぐるみのように可愛いかった幼馴染の初恋の相手を大人になってからも想う切々とした歌詞と、情感溢れるサウンドがガーファンクルのボーカルとベスト・マッチで印象に残る名曲。

収められた曲も粒揃いで、ガーファンクルのボーカルも充実しているガーファンクル・ファン必聴の名アルバム。
