１９分の「that,that is」がイイ！
イエスのソフトがあり過ぎて、多忙な方には、じっくり聴く間がないかもしれませんが、この曲は逃してはなりませぬ良い曲です。
アビーロードのＢ面のようなメドレー形式。７つのパートに分かれているがよく聴くと、おんなじ曲が繰り返し交互に出てきます。そういう点では、フーの「トミー」にも近いですが。
・アルペジオによる静かで美しい曲（ONWARDっぽい）
・サビがとっても前向きな力強い曲（90125イエスっぽい）
・詩の朗読のような曲（海洋地形学っぽい）
・昇天してしまうようなジョンの声がとても美しく聞こえる曲
（いろいろあるけど、特にラダーのリバーに近い）
これまでのイエスの足跡を、ほんの一部少しずつ、つなげたような感じだけど、演奏がとても上手く、音も綺麗。
アラン・ホワイトにいたっては、ドンカマを使っているのか？と思うほどタイム・キープが完璧。ビル・ブラッフォードみたいだ。手数も極端に少なく、「危機」の時のビルの叩き方に似ている。ハイハットやシンバルを叩かない。オーケストラの中のティンパニみたいに必要な時しか顔を出さないやり方だ。

自分は８人イエスの後にイエスを初めて知り、初めて向かえた新作は、「トーク」だった。もう、黄金期のイエスを現役で迎えることはないのかと思っていたところ、出てきたのがこの作品。ライブも新曲もそれまでの総括っぽくて、もうイエスはなくるのじゃないのかと心配したものです。
実際には全然そうではなく、イエスは今でも現役です。

スタジオ新録とライヴ音源の抱き合わせ、しかもシリーズ発表とはどっちつかずの最悪な企画だと思う。リスナーは「2」と組み合わせ独自に編集して聴かねばならない。音源としては名盤の域に近いにも関わらず、マネジメントの悪さが今の音楽シーンからこのアルバムを排斥する元凶となっている。

私は「海洋地形学の物語」があまり好きではなかったが、ここに収録されている「神の啓示」は、オリジナル盤のフラストレーションを見事に払拭している。リックのプレイが断然良い。ぶつぎれ感がない。見事に「危機」の如く消化されている。廃盤・入手困難になるまえに買うべし。
