基本的に『キーズ トゥ アセンション』と同じ構成だが、ライブ トラックに関しては、珍しい曲目が前作の方に集中したためか、こちらはやや新鮮味に欠ける。その中では「世紀の曲がり角」の繊細な美しさが光る。だが、今回は CD 一枚をまるごと使ったスタジオ録音の新曲がなかなか力が入っている。特にイエスとしては久々に 20 分に迫る“大作”である「マインド ドライヴ」は、70 年代風のギターとキーボードによるインタープレイを交えながらの変化の激しい複雑な組曲形式となっており、長さを感じさせない。ただ、デジタル シンセサイザー群を昔のハモンド オルガンやメロトロンと同じ発想、スタイルで使用してしまうという、従来の欠点がこの作品でも顕著に現われている。それは特にエレクトリック ギターとのアンサンブルにおいて、明らかに聴覚上の不快感を喚起する要因となっており、このバンドが本来持っていた透明感や軽快さという美点を大きく損なっているように思われる。ソングライティングやアレンジは依然として卓越しているだけに惜しい。

発表が「オープン・ユア・アイズ」と重なり、このアルバムが新しいYESの姿なのか戸惑いながら聴いた覚えがある。やはりリックのいない「オープン・ユア・アイズ」が現在進行形のYESなんだということがバレバレだったため、リリース当時はかなり微妙な位置にあった作品だ。そもそも新曲とライヴを二枚に渡って同時収録するなんて発想がおかしい。新曲パートもライヴパートもどちらもクオリティが高いのに、前者はイエスのニューアルバムとして拍手喝采で受け入れられず、後者は現代版「イエスソングス」にもなれなかった。あ〜、もったいない。この売り上げの悪さ、「Keystudio」が今となっては売り上げ上位にランキングされていることから判断しても、明らかに企画倒れだ。内容は素晴らしいのに売れない…。ファンとしては「1&2」、両方買って自分で編集して聴きましょう。
