「こうもり序曲」、「天体の音楽」、「うわごと」、「美しき青きドナウ」ではゆったりと歌いつくしています。チャイコフスキーを思わせるぐらい叙情的です。「観光列車」、「電光と雷鳴」ではマグネシウムのような眩しさに胸ときめきます。バトルと共演した「春の声」は、バトルの技巧の精密さと明るい声がウィーンフィルと混ざり合って、崇高な音楽になっています。最晩年のブルックナーで達成された美しさが、ニューイヤーらしい茶目っ気とともにほとばしったカラヤンの傑作です。

何という演奏…言葉を失います。特にワルツ「天体の音楽」のメロディーの歌わせ方が息を呑む程素晴らしく、絶品です。ウィーン・フィルも極上の響きを聴かせてくれ至福のひとときを味わえます。バトルの「春の声」はもちろん、ボスコフスキー以降、色んな指揮者が振った中ではクライバーと並んで最高なのではないでしょうか。因みにこのコンサートはソニークラシカルからDVD「カラヤンの遺産」で視聴出来ます。

新しい年を迎えた喜びが、
演奏と観客の拍手から伝わってきます。
仕事に疲れていても、
この演奏を聴いているとなんだか元気が出てきます。

クラシックの歌唱法はどうもなぁと思っていましたが、
キャスリーン・バトルがソロをとる「春の声」を
すっかり気に入ってしまいました。

今では数あるクラシックのCDの中で一番のお気に入りです。
