トラフィック73年２月発売のアルバムのリマスター盤。何と言っても、マッスル･ショールズのデヴィッド･フッド (b) とロジャー･ホーキンス (ds) の加入が大きいです。名うてのマッスル･ショールズのリズム隊が１つのグループに加わったのはこれが最初で最後。72年12月のジャマイカ録音ですが、ジミー・ジョンソン (g) 、バリー･ベケット (key) も録音に参加し、エンジニアはジェリー・マスターズ＆スティーヴ・メルトンという完全マッスル･ショールズ仕様。スティーヴ･ウィンウッドの米南部音楽指向とがっちりマッチした形となった本作は個人的にはトラフィックの最高傑作だと思います。ファンキーなタイトル曲から、南部的な大きなうねりを持った長尺な「Roll Away Stones」、クリス･ウッド作のラテン･ファンク的なインスト曲「Tragic Magic」、ラストのサザン･ソウル的バラード「Uninspired」まで、聴き応えたっぷり。米南部音楽が再評価されている昨今、もっと評価されるべきアルバムでしょう。当時の全米アルバム･チャートでも彼らの最高位である６位を獲得。この後、初来日も予定されていたのに中止になったのは非常に残念でした。
本リマスター盤はボーナス･トラックがないのは残念ですが、「Uninspired」はオリジナルより10秒ほど長いヴァージョンで収録。米ユニヴァーサル・スタジオの重鎮エンジニア、Jeff Willens のよるリマスタリングで、旧ＣＤに較べ、中低音のふくらみが増したため南部的な図太いサウンドになっています。

ほんまにこのアルバムは奥が深く今でも新たな感激が味わえます。３５年前に発売された大抵の人にトラフィックの最高傑作と言わしめている本作はメンバーも一番いい面子が揃ったと僕は考えております。個人的には５曲目の「Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired」が何べん聞いてもいいです。特にボーカルは言うまでもなくギターが泣きます。感激もんです。でもこういう変形ジャケットものはレコードで集めたいですね。

　本作からはリック・グレッチとジム・ゴードンが抜け、マッスル・ショールズ・サウンドのスタジオ・ミュージシャンが３名加わっている。
　そのため、サウンドがさらに「ブリティッシュ・ビート」から遠く離れ、ジャズやＲ＆Ｂ先祖系の北米大陸クロスオーバー／フュージョンと同じ土俵で聞けるくらいまで進化している。
　60年代のブリティッシュ・ロック専門のリスナーには面白くないかもしれないが、ジャズ、Ｒ＆Ｂ、ソウルなどを愛するリスナーにすれば、「ここからが面白いんだヨ！」ということになる。
