前歴がきらびやかなグループのメインだった人の
ソロアルバムというと、なぜか１枚目が素晴らしいことが多い。
Peter Gabrielしかり、この人しかり・・・。
（その後、デジタルシンセの大仰な音になっていくのも
似ている・・・。）
これはシンプルで、かつバックのリズム・セクションが
アンディ・ニューマーク（後期ロキシーでも活躍）、

ウィリー・ウィークスという超ファンキーな組み合わせ。
（２曲目のイントロにはぞくぞくします！）
スティーヴの歌も心なしかアーシーで最高です。
最後のバラードも心の底から酔えます・・・。

彼のアルバムでは一番おすすめといっても過言ではありません。
LPの時代に、カット盤（バーゲン品）で買った思い出の作品です。

WinWoodのソロ作品では、Back in the Highlifeあたりの評価が高いようですが、私としては、この作品が最も好きです。Traffic解散前の
When the eagle friesに通底した趣のある、淡々とした音の按配は、粋ななrockと言ってよく、むしろその後の時期のWinwooodはやや迷走していたのではないかと思っています。ある意味で、このあたりの作品が、一つの到達点であったと評価すべきではないかと言ったら、言い過ぎでしょうか。

２２・３年前、ついでに買ったのがこのレコード。以来、ときどき聴きたくなる不思議な１枚。今の「癒し」系とは違うのでしょうが、確かに自分を何となく癒しつづけてくれた１枚です。「天才」と騒がれていた、とか、スペンサーデイヴィスグループ、トラフィック、ブラインドフェイス、とかそんな前歴とは無関係に聴いてみてもいいのでは。淡々と流れるときを味わいたい１枚。少しジャジー、だったり、ポップだったり、切々と歌い上げたり、地味だけれど２０年経った今も肩肘張らず何となく良いな　と思える　そうだな、１０代２０代では思わなかったけれど、「上を向いて歩こう」って実は名曲だったなと思う。それと同じような意味で良い１枚。お奨めです。
