グレース・ジョーンズの諸作の中でもその完成度では群を抜くコンセプチュアルな１作。プロデュースを手がけたのは当時ZTTレーベルからあのアート・オブ・ノイズやフランキー・ゴーズ・トゥー・ハリウッド、プロパガンダなどを送り出し、時代の寵児となっていた元バグルズ〜イエスのトレヴァー・ホーン。アルバム全体で１つの組曲の様な趣の感じられるシームレスな構成や、いかにも“ＺＴＴサウンド”なグレースの声を素材にしたサウンド・コラージュにトレヴァーの意匠と閃きを感じる。流石に音色が古めかしい所があるのは15年以上も前の作品だけに否めないのだけど、不思議といつ聴いてもフレッシュな感覚があるのは、このサウンド構成と唯一無二のグレース・ジョーンズ、その人の声の存在感のせいだと思う。リマスターされればさらに本作の魅力は伝わりやすいと思うのだけど、正直今となっては気恥ずかしいものが多い８０年代の作品の中では数少ない、胸を張って推薦できる１作ではある。

この時代当時の最高級機材であるシンクラビアを駆使した
（サンプリング・レコーダー・FM音源入り）、
リミックスアルバム的なコンセプトである。
ラディカルなエンジニアリング、空間を配慮した粋なアレンジ、良楽曲、のどれをとっても隙がない。
ZTTからのリリースでは音楽史に残す価値のある名盤。

Slave to the Rhythm serve as a biography of Grace's career and life.
At the peak of her success which charted in 1985; a grammy for her One-Man-Show; a role in the James Bond flick "A View to a Kill" and a chart topping hit single with "Slave to the Rhythm."
The album is a brief version of the original lp, when the lp first came out in 1985 it sounded magnificent and the detailed worked put into the biography was astonishing; but the transition from lp to cd did not faire as well. Many interview cuts and brief samples have been excluded from the cd; the clip where Grace tells how much "La Vie en Rose" means to her and a couple more.
The music itself is however still marvelous; lush soundscapes are used to grand effect and the instruments are all top notch, plus Grace delivers in my opinion; the performance of her life.
The songs or "cuts" on the cd are different interpretations of the actual song; all of the tunes are delivered in various of emotions, scary tribe emotion: "Operattack", new-age delicate "The Crossing (oh the action) and the definitive result is the best song of the eighties, Ladies and Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones.
